WEDNESDAY EVENING.
—The Republican meeting on Wednesday
was well attended, and very enthusiastic.
It was addressed by ou'r friend Chase, of
_the True Democrat, of i 'Yor)c, and: G.: T.
'FOlies, Esq.; of this 'phice. Roth speeches
were well received, and filled with irrefuta
ble arguments. Mr: Chase made some good
local "strikes,' and had • "Junior" been
keeping good company he would have had
-an opportunity to take the wings of. an
eagle and sore •aloft—to fight" upon some
wood-pile. Mr. Fobes dealt in sound logic,
and was listened to with profound attention.
4le'spoke not as an orator, but as an "oys
terman," and the way ho -culled'Democra
cy, and threw the shells into its face, was a
caution. - Young men will doubtless long
be engaged in rubbing the mud and barna
cles from their eyes. If they'll call this
way, we'll lend them the advantages'of our
"fast steam power."
