Innocent amusements, visits to town, in dulgences in the dunce and other popular sports, usually fill up the hours from morn ing until night, and the shades of the latter are often appropriated to wooing and en deavoring to win the affection of those fair ones, who are ordained as our friends, our helpmates and companions. Wolfe tt Killinger at Fairview, to witness the slaughter of the mammoth bul lock of which mention was made in these columns last week. We venture the asser tion that it was ono of the finest bullocks over slaughtered in this part of the county. In addition to this, another steer was killed which was also a hue specimen. The beef will be exposed at the shambles on market this morning and •is e believe it is all sold to customers; they not having enough of this quality of meat to supply the demand. This shows the popularity of these young and enterprising victu alers and they return thanks to their customers and the public generally for the liberal support given them. They richly deserve the patronage extended to them, and we know it is appreciated. Their slaughtering establishment is on a new plan and is entirely original. It is a model of neatness, and well adapted to the busi ness—everything clean, neat and in the right place. They have connected with their shops an ice -house, vaults &c., for the preservation of meats in warm weather. It would be unjust to close this article without mention of the numerous other butchers in town who have likewise killed extra line beeves for Whit-Sunday, among whom we may mention P. Saylor 3,.; Son, M. Wike, Swartz, Yeager, Minich and oth ers. A. walk through our market-place this morning, would convince any one that Columbia has about the finest beef market • in the United States. The de fendant knocked Gay down and kicked him in the face and on the body until he became helpless, when lie seized hold of Gay's nose with his teeth and bit off a por tion of it. The fight collected a large con course of both sexes froM "lialitown" to witness it.
