MISHLER'S HERB BITTERS
WILL BE SOLD, nEREAFTER ONLY IN GLASS
IT CAE BE I.II.OCURED Or ALL DEUQ9ISTS
In making the above, change, and discon
tinuing entirely the sale of .Mishler's Herb
Bitters in balk, the proprietors deem that
the people shouldi be 'informed .of the
causes which called forth such action on
their part.
• - In the first place, we hold. that Mishler's
Herb Bitters is not a beverage; we, never
intended it to bo used as a beverage, but
that it is a medicinal preparation of various
herbs, &c., compounded upon scientific
principles, and in exact accordance with
the formula) of the pharmacopoeia in the
preparation of the tinctures, &c. com
pound tincture of eighteen clifferent ,
FicrbB.
&c., and, as fair as possible -removed, and
differing from the many so called Tonics,
Bitters, Cordials, Stem:tellies, which; for
the most part, are nothing but so many dis
guisesgs, sumed by 'whisky, and as for the
most part composed of the major portion of
the very vilest qUalitv of that article, fla
vored with seine strong - drugs to destroy
the nausea of the same, in order-
to tickle
the palate, minister to a depravedtaste and
afford a plausible excuse for persons ~to
drink whisky tinder a different name.
Mishler's Herb Bitters has been sold in
bulk. In this particular it has been unfor
tunate, for it had thus been placed _directly
in contact with the above mentioned, and
although •its intrinsic merit and sterling
worth has enabled it, to - sustain its high
character, yet the ; people have nalurally . a
certain„ distrust of- the article' when it is
found-to be classed- in the same category
with a number of whisky preparations, bar
drinks, and borerages.
This is the one great advantage against
Mishler's Herb Bitters has to
contend, 1)1W - there is still another—The
demand for .it • has- caused - many un
principled persons, who , are not content
with the-profit derived in a legitimate man
ner from its sale: TO INCREASE THEIR
GAINS BY ADULTBItATION. 'They will
purchase; perhaps,-11 barrel, and by the ad
mixtnro of cheap whisky and water, in
crease the quantity, making _perhaps, two,
or it'may be three barrels of the counterfeit,
from single barrel of the genuine, thus
abasing the contidence of their customers,
injuring their health, and it is
ninny instances, indicting serious injury,
thereby, - besides doing injustice,to the pro
prietors and injuring the reputation of the
article'.: • 2 , • , ,• - _ -
the trieSt - seriaits Objection, but
there is still another.—Our desire to have
- this:preparation for stile- on the-shelves of
every clrupist; and' country store dealer,
-thits placingr,„it- within, 'easy - access of all
:elasSes and every section -of the country.
Tf the I3itters, are sold in' Milk, it is retailed
- piincipally at hOtels, , .restamiants- and _tav
erns, so that druggists and . merchants eon
'not safely; and profitably. sell -it -to their
-customers. At the hotels •the Bitters-is- of.-
tithes' fearfully adulterated ; while- whea

the medicine.withoutlear of detection. En
hotels it must be sold ss'a beverage; whirl
is not-the object of its manufacture, while
as ameclicine, securely Settled in a proper
sized bottle, the Bitters can be retailed from
the counter of, every druggist and merchant.

OBtirs. ;- ' Please , send me, immediately,.
my usual:, complement of your Bitters, as'
whati have on hand is going off rapidly,-
and will soon be exhausted.
I have been very- successful in curing
with the Bitters a very distressing case of
Scrofula. The i
patient s - a young
man who
was afflicted, with the, disease for years.
Five bottles of the Bitters; with one of
green label, cured him entirely.
;Yon have not recommended. your Bitters
for worms in 'children, but front a case that
has passed through my hands, I ant saris=
fled that MISHLER'S' 'HERB BITTERS
can be rolled on as a specific in suet , disor
ders. The facts of the case are as lollows:
X gentleman, whose wife had been using
the Bitters, has a child of about six years,
of ago, who - was sadly afflicted with worms;
and reduced to a mere skeleton. Quite a
number of,ourprominent, physicians pre-'
,scribOd 'for' the - child, -but,lwithout :avail.
The gentleman finally concluded to try,
Your Bitters, and
_commenced giving the
child. a half teaspoonful three times per
day. On the - third day• of this treatment
the Bitters caused trouble with the worms,
and the father says it fairly- frightened him
-to seethe immense-number of worms that,,
passed - from his little. sufferer. The child
has rapidly 1.0 - covered • from, - its - many
monthsAliness, and is in, 'tlie enjoyment of
good health, although it is somewhat thin.
I mention these two cases to you to show
• you the success that is following the intro
duction of the Bitters iii the New England
States. • i. .
