To preach -to church' members who 'do not observe the most Common - rules,of pro -.priety of the house of God, is rowing against a poWerful Current. ...Nor do I believe that -any Minister who comprehends the decency and order that belongs to Christian worship can. drive ,onward: with his .discourse:re gardless of whispering within or bOisterous "talk without.. ,In -many cases, think, .it, 7 -would be better to dismiss the congrega tion than, to• proceed wild - Nl-orshiPiamid these gross, inconsistencies of' conduct. A 'calm disrnissal et the audience, with a:pro per explanation of the procedure, would perhaps, be—the -most : impressive - and effectual, rebuke. "."Everintieinber of the church should be, in 1115 or her:seat before the hour of service. It 'is n pitiful - sceneto see half a dozen members walking up the 'aisle just as - the minister says, '' , Let.us pray," or just at the moment he announces his text. No per son can enter the house of God; during ser vice, without producing more or less dis turbance. That-the best of persons will sometimes be late afehurch I do mot deny ; buteertainly it is a strange fatality against a man that neVer peimits'hirosolf - to get to the house of the Lord at the appOinted hour. • The heavy step with which thoughtless persons enter the house and tramp along the aisles is very unbecoming, as well as disturbing to the quiet of the'cengregation. The common habit of looking • over the as if trying-to spy out • a long absent friend, or as if expecting some one to stalk into the house who - had risen 'from the dead, is most unbecoming indeed. No' 'one can worship his...
