Was being demolished with a view to

A. force of laborers w ere employed by
the contractor, and all were engaged in
the cellar cleaning bricks, when, at "the

A BIT OF SECRET HISTORY
When Mr. Carpenter-painted his well
known ;picture of the " Death-bed of
Lincoln," the figure of Andrew Johnson
was one' of those gathered:, around the
couch of the dying President, and very
justly, for he was really there with, the
rest. of the meinbers' , of the Cabinet and
Others.. Before
_the - finishing touches
were given' to the picture, public opinion
had so changed in the North respecting
the new President, that the artist thought
that. the popularity of his 'work would
be injured by the prominence' of the
Chief Executive in the paintings. So
believing, he erased President' Johnson
and inserted Schuyler Cplfax in his
stead. Thus the picture, remains ; very

WISTAR'S .BALSAM OF WILD
CHERRY.
This remedy has long been cherished by the
community for its remai liable efficacy in relieving,
healing and curing the most obstinate, painful and
long-standing cases - of dnigh, Cold, Influenza, Sore
Throat, Bronchitis, Wlulepin& Cough, Creep,• Asthma,-
Inflammation of the Lungs; while even Consumption
Itself has yielded to its magic ii -rence when all
other means have failed. Its whore history proves
that the past has produced no remedy' of equal
value, as a cure for tho numerous and dangerous
pulmonary affections which prevail all over the
land.
Unsolicited Testimony.
From ANDREW ARMIES, ESQ., of Fairfield, Me.
"About eightyears - since. my son, Henry A. Archer,
now Postmaster at Fairfield, Somerset county, Me.,
was attacked with spitting of blond, cough. weak
ness of Lungs, and general debility, so much so
that our family physician declared turn to have a
"SEATED CONSUMPTION." He was under medical treat
ment for a number of months, but received no bene
fit from it. At length,
i from the solicitation of him
self and others, I was induced to purchase one bottle
of WISTARS BALSAM OF WILD CHERRY, which
benefitted him so much I obtained another bottle,
which in a short time restored him to his usual
state of health. -1 think I can safely recommend
this remedy to others in like contiition, for it is: I
