List evening, upon the arrival of the
Chicago train, a private carriage tools to
the Walker House a young lady and a
young gentleman who appeared very
much excited and yery much in a hurry.
Upon showing the lady into the. parlor
the gentleman called Mr. Carver, the
phief clerk, and defined his position. He
was the proprietor of a runaway match.
He loved the lady and the lady loved him
—they loved each other, and had sworn
to love nobody else. As they always will.
the young lady portion of the expedition
had a mother who bad serious and con
tinued and stubborn objections to her
/daughter marrying ju=t at this time, un.
less she married the person of the lady's
choice, while the loving daughter had
determined to marry the object of her
own selection. Consequently. as they
had determined to be separated no longer
they bad embraced the first opportunity
to fly and here they were, only awaiting
pie coming of the parson to make them
happy. A parlor was tendered for the
use of the persistent eeuple, a clergyman
was sent for and in very short order they
were made one flesh and blood, in the
presence" of a number of the gucsis of
the house—ladies and gentlemen. This
morning they returned to Chicago to beg
mamma's pardon, and promise if forgiven
pot to do so again. The gentleman is a
well known conductor on a Chicago rail
road and bears an excellent reputation,
while the lady is the only child and pros
pective heir of one of the wheat elevator
kings of the same city, who had no Ob
jection to the new son-in-law only as far
as his wife was concerned. Indeed, if
the truth were known, we Believe he en
couraged the coup etat. The lady is
one of the most beautiful and intelligent
ladies in Chicago, and We think. as we
have little doubt about it, the now happy
pair will receive forgiveness at the hands
pf mamma, and float adown life's stream
on balmy breezes, fragrant with the love
and dev'otion which now makes them so
very happy.--.lfilwaukce lrisconsin.
A raiNTER's apprentice says, that at
the office they charge him with all the
pi they do find, and at the house they
charge him with all they don't find He
does not understand that kind of logic.
—The Chicago Journal says : We
hear of some injury, by recent frosts, in
some parts of the West, but no very
serious damage is reported. The season
is dfscouragingly iiekNyarkl, and rain is
much needed. The crop prospects, how ;
ever, arc generally good."
—A man in Nashua, N. Er., recently
lost his "beloved companion" on Satur
day, procured •a certificate on Monday,
Ftd on Tuesday was again enjoying the
pleasures of married life.
A. YEARYUL STORY.-7-TliP Zanesville
(Ohio) 'Signal, of last week, states that a
• -
few days since a coffin, containing the
body of a lady, was shipped from Parkers
burg, W. Va.,on board the D. N. Sechler
for transportation to Guernsey county,via
Wheeling. Upon reaching its destina
tion, and being opened by the friends,
their horror and dismay may be imagined
upon discovering that the unfortunate
lady had evidently come to life during
Ilerincarceration within the narrow limits
of her coffin. Tier hands were up to her
bead, and the tangled and disordered hair
gave evidence of a struggle which mast
have been as brief as terrible.
