JEWELRY OF AN AFR.ICA:N i f PRINCthS.3.
--Dr. Livingston, in his recently pub
lished account, 'of - his voyage up the
great river of Eastern Africa, says the'
sister of one of the chiefs wore eighteen
solid brass rings, as thick as one's finger,
on each leg, and three of copper under
each knee ; nineteen brass rings on her
left arm, and eight of brass and copper
on her right ; also a large ivory ring -
IlbclTC each elbow, or sev e nty one rings
in all. She had a pre4ty bead necklace,
and a bead sash encircled her wais.t.—.,
The weight of the bright brass rings
around 'tier legs impeded her walking
and chafed her ankles; but as it was
the fashion she did not mind the incon
venience, and parded against the pain
'by_putting soft rags around the lower
rings. 4 So much for fashion. '
.Messrs. Jessup Moore, the exten

numerous friends, at the Continental
Hotel. This firm is now engaaed,in the
manufacture of paper froi wood pulp-;
and the banquet was intended to core
inemorate the discovery of the process,
which is, in fact, the most wonderful in
veation of the age. Among the toasts
presented on thc occasion, were the fol
lowing : "The Mannayunk. Wood Paper
Company:—May their new enterprise
prove so successful that no one can say
`Their paper is Jess•up to the standard,

The Real Velp4a Fenizile Pills.
[Warranted French.] "
Tthese Pills, so celebrated many years
ago in Paris for the relief of - female ir
regularities, are now offered for sale for the first time
in America. They have been kept in comparative
obscurity from the fact that the originator. Dr. Vel

: scientions principles, and has withheld them t loin
genesal use, lest they should be employed for un
lawful purpeses. In overcoming female obstruc
tions they seem really omnipotent. They are, offer

.It is belieyed that such a

on Sr. ANTHONY'S FIRE, and indeed the whole
class of complaints arising from IMPURITY OF
THE BLOOD.
This compound will be found a great pro
moter of health, when taken in the spring, to
expel the foul humors which fester in the
blood at that season of the year. Ily the time
ly expulsion of them many rankling disorders
are nipped in the bud. Multitudes can, by
the aid of this remedy, spare themselves from
the endtirance of foul, eruptions• and ulcerous
sores, through which the system will strive to
rid itself of corruptions, if not assisted to do
this through the natural channels of the body
by an - alterative medicine. Cleanse out the
vitiated blood whenever you find its impurities
bursting through the skin in pimples, eruptions,
or sores; cleanse it when you find it is ob
structed and sluggish in the veins ; cleanse it
whenever it is foul, and your feelings will tell
you, when. , Even
„where no particular disorder
is felt, 'people-' enjoy better - health, 'and . 'live
longer, for cleansing the blood. Keep the
blood healthy, and all is „well; but with this
pabulum of 'life disordered; - there can be no
lasting health. Sooner or later something
must go wrong, and the great machinery of
life is disordered or overthrown.
Sarsaparilla has, and deserves much, the
reputation of accomplishing these ends. But
the world has been egregiously deceived by
preparations of it, partly because the drug
alone has not all the virtue that is claimed
for it, but more because many preparations,
pretending to 'be concentrated extracts. °tit,
contain but little of the virtue of Sarsaparilla,
or any thing else.
During late years the public have been mis
led by large bottles, pretending to-give a quart
of Extract of Sareaparilla far orie dollar. Most
of these have been frauds upon the sick, for
they not only. contain little, ifi any, Sarsapa
rilla, but often no curative properties whatev
er. Hence, bitter and painful, disappointment
has followed the use of the various extracts of
Sarsaparilla which flood tho'nthrket, until the
name itself is justly despised, and has become
synonymous with imposition and cheat. - Still
we call this compound Sarsaparilla, and intend
to supply such a remedy as shall rescue the
name from the load of obloquy which rests
upon it. And we think we have ground for
believing it has virtues which are irresistible
by the ordinary run of the diseases it is intend.
ed to cure. In order to secure Aheir_complete
eradiation 'from the system, the .remedy 'should
be judiciously taken according to directions on
the bottle.
