POETS may sing of beauty " when un adorned, adorned the most," but there is less of truth than poetry in the remark, and we imagine that the warmest ad mirers of the beauties of the human form divine, have no desire to, return to the primitive era of fig leaves, and poor humanity is still greatly dependent for its good looks upon the labors of the mantua maker and the tailor. OUR. BOROUGH SHOULD AT ONCE BE PUT UPON A CLEAN AND HEALTHFUL BA SIS.—We are glad to notice that our Bor ough authorities are at work in having the streets and alleys put in proper trim. Though the promised improvement to be made in the alley between Locust and 2nd streets, has not yet been commenced, as it should be. We are told that the delay is caused from the want of.material. They have had warning enough. It is perfectly right to blame it on material or the man who is to furnish it. This is a work that should have been commenced e'er this.— But better late than never. No matter how' it is fixed, blood and filth will tell. It is of vast importance to the health and comfort of the people, that , our beautiful and flourishing borough be thoroughly cleansed, before warm weather fairly sets in. Precautions of the kind are being ta ken in all the seaboard and large interior towns elsewhere ; and we•certainly should not be behind other people- in a work so necessary to the health of the entire com munity. Let all the . alleits•be`'kept clean and sweet. Let private -fainilles see 'that their cellars and outhouses are in good condition. See that lio swill, garbage or other refuse mater is left on you premises. If your neighbor or your landlord refuses or neglects to do his duty, in putting his house and lot in proper order,.report him to the sanitary committee , appointed by the Borough authorities to look after such matters.
