'While opening oysters, found in one of them

purported to be a "pearl of great price."
He valued the little retie highly, sent it to
Philadelphia and had it inserted In an
eagle's claw, and wore It for a breast-pin,
until. a few days ago, when he sold it to
Lieut. Harry Reinhold, of Lancaster,
for Fifty Dollars.

Entrance was obtained througha basement
winddiv in the 'rear of the house. Police
otilier,Colby recovered part of the clothing
Ina day or two after the rubbery, which
had been pawned forsl:i. No trace of the
silver haS yet been discovered. We know
that the Doctor hactsome valuable silver
instruments, which if stolen, will not easily
be replaced.
ACCIDENT ON TrIE NORTHERN CENTRAL
RAILWAY.-AR aecident occurred on this
road on Saturday Morning last, by which
Dr. 0. S. Mahon, formerly, of Columbia,
and Wm. H. Coleman, one of the Adam's
Express Messengers, wore seriouly injured.
As the mail train west was approaching
Eider'sSwiteh, at th• usual rate of speed,
it eame in • contact with a car • loaded with
railroad iron which had been backed too
far on the sideling. The locomotive, bag
gage and express ears were thrown off the
track, 'doing considerable damage, besides
wounding many of the passengers. Mr.
Coleman had his aria so terribly crushed
that it was amputated the same evening.
Dr. 0. S. MahOn' had his leg broken. Re
was removed to his residence, No. 134,
North Exeteratreet, Baltimore, where Dr.
IL P. P. Yeatei rendered his services.

ing the attention of Council to 11 filthy alley,
in Locust street, between property of Dr.
Hottenstein and Isaac Snyder. On motion
it was resolved that the Supervisor be in
structed to notify the persons owning the
property adjoining the alley,to attend to the
cleaning of the same.

Market be instructed . to inform the Bur
gess of all persons violating the ordinance,
prohibiting persons from buying or selling
at the market boforo the hour of opening.
On motion resolved, that there be 150
copies printed and pcisted in the borough,
of the ordinance relating to disorderly con
duct, by persons in the streets of the bor
ough, and that the High Constable attend
to his duties in carryingthe ordinance into
effect. " •

LIVELY.—Our town has been made quite
lively during the week by the "Yankees."
The river has been in gbod rafting order
and our wharves are 'lined with rafts of
all classes front one end of the town to the
other. The scarcity of lumds In this place
has raised the wages front $3 to $4 per trip
from hero to Peachbottont. • Comparitive
ly little lumber has yet been bought in
this market—though many. merchants aro
Wore from other places. The prices scent

pine, and $l.l to $l3 per thousand for hem
lock.
There Is not the demand for lumber in

GOLD WATCh •FOUND.—Mr. Cassel,
brealcsman on the Calumina:train, found
on the floor between the seats of the car
after the passengers laid gat out at this
place on Tuesday evening, a. ladies gold
watch and chain. There was attached to
the chain a head very neatly cut . from a
copper penny, indicating very conclusive
ly, the wearer to be a "copperhead." Mr.
Cassel soon assertained that it belonged to
a [may in Lancaster, to

chain and copperhead was handed the
next morning, on the arrival of the train
in that city.
