says that Governor Pettus, of Mississippi,

A Jackson, Miss., despatch of the 18th
says: Five Yankee gunboats arrived within
range of our batteries at 'Vicksburg yestet
'day noon. The commander sent a flag of
truce demanding the surrender of the city.
