people of that city number about 5000 souls. I
Of their occupations and wealth it is stated
----that there are five physicians, one of whom
has a .yery large practice among both whites
and blacks; twelve grocers; thirty music and
school teachers; five daguerreotypists; one
patent roofer; five brick-layers and stone-nut-
suns; two trunk makers; twelve dealers itt
market; five or six boot and shoemakers; a
number of excellent tailors, blacksmiths,
and carpenters; and one hundred.
dress-makers, shirt-makers, and tailuresses.
Among them is Henry lloyd, one of the lar
gest and best cabinet manufacturers in the
:city, who is worth at lea-t t 4-10,000; .1. P.
Ball, It. G. Ball, and J. C. Ball, who take
as fine daguerreotypes ns are taken in the
worl I, and who are vote; $30,000 at least.
