DIXLER.—In Austin, Texas, on the evening
of the 3d, last., of typhus fever, Jacob E. Blxier,

IN MEMORTAM.
Hepburn,
Mr, Blxlcr was born at Mount Rock,"Cumber
land county, Pa., and was the son of Samuel
Blxier, Esq,, Deputy Clerk of tno Court. For al
most twenty months, In company with the
writer, ho had been traveling over the western
country, apparently In good health, until with
in the past three months, when 1 arrived homo,
leaving him In Kentucky, Ho finally started
fbrToxas last December, and waiciliero struck
down, In a strange land and among a strange
people, with that terriulcdlsoaso, typhus fever.
Mr. Blxier was a young man of excellent traits
of character, a faithful companion and trust
worthy friend, leaving behind him a largo circle
of acquaintances to mourn his sudden death.
Possessed of a warm heart, he accumulated
hosts of friends wherever fortune placed him.
His life was love—his love was strong. Dying
in a strange country, with no mother's soothing
hand to cool his fevered brow, no father’s last
embrace, no brother or sister’s parting farewell,
fills the heart with emotion unspeakable. Yet
ha bad a friend. God. who is the friend and
father of us all, called him home to meet his
sister and enjoy “ that peace that surpasses all
understanding.” ’ What a consolation _lt Is to
his parents to know that ho embraced the reli
gion of Jesus Christ, and died In the hope of a
blessed Immortality.
Hepburn.
Hurarlcb.
Ho was kind and tender-hearted,
Mildness beamed within his eyes.
Tears were shed-when life departed
For the blue ana starry skies;
Hut he shall not bo forgotten.
Though hla soul away bath flown,
Though he now does soundly slumber
In the cold, cold grave alone. J.
