> Tribute op Respect.— Resolutions passed by the students of Dickinson Col je ge t on the death of A. D. Msil'»y, who died on the 21st ult.: Whereas, It has pleased Aim aiiiv God to take from us, on the morning* •it Sunday, the 21st ult., our fellow-student A. D. Maloy, ol (’entreville, Md. there fore, by the students of Dickinson Col lege, in the chapel assembled, he it Resolved, That os wo cannot recall the dead to the living, we still feel it our du ty id consideration of Ihe good character and good principles of the deceased, and the esteem in which be was held by all who knew him, to bear testimony of our deep sorrow and regret which his death has occasioned us, causing a gloom to bang over the College with which we are connected, and a sadness to pervade eve ry beait. While our associations with the deceased have been of shurtduratlon. yet they were enough to endear him to us’all, and to keep his memory over sa cred an i cherished in our hearts* His pstieuce during hours of sickness. his resignation to the Divine will, and his courtous, uniform, gentlemanly conduct in the days of bis health among us, all serve to increase our sorrow at his un timely death. Resolved, That we hereby extend to the family and relatives of thedeceased, our tenderest sympathy in their distress. Feeling that nought of human help van avail in such an extremity, and that words, however kind or sympathetic, cannot assuage the pains of an aching heart, we commend all the afflicted to ohr*Heuvenly Fathers love and care.— “He who tempereth the wind to the shorn lamb,” and of whom it is written, “ not a sparrow falls to the ground with out his notice,” can overrule even this sad bereavement for good. Resolved, That we will wear the usual badge of mourning for thirty days; that we will attend the funeral obsequies, and accompany ids remains, in the order ot our class, to the depot. Resolved That a copy of these resolu tions be suitably engrossed and forward ed to the family of the deceased, and that they be published iu the Volunteer and Herald, of Carlisle, the Methodist Home Journal, of Philadelphia, aud theCeiure treville, Md. papers. P. K. WiMUßOuaii, Chairman, Jos. H, McKeehan, Secretary, A Card.— Messrs Bratton & Kennedy, You stale in your issue of the 25th, inat, that “a package of the Volun teer, of the date of February 11th, was mailed in the Carlisle office ou the even ing of February 10th, and reached Bloser ville on Saturday evening the 20th,inat ” and charge “that the blame must be in the Carlisle or Newville office.” I beg leave to claim exemption from any blame in this matter by the follow ing explanation: The P. M. at New* vilie has informed mo, that the package refered to, was. on the occasion specilied, incidentally distributed into the Spring field and Stoughstown Mail Pouch at Nesvville, and did not return to Newville, until the succeeding Monday; aud, as Bloservllle receives but oue mail a week (on Saturday,) the missing package was re-mailed at Newville, February the 20th, in«t, thus accounting, that the cause of delay does not attach to this office.
