The amount paid hythe Government for the
transportation of troops, munitions, stores amt
mails lias been, and doubtless will continue to
he, much more than the interest on the United
States Second Mortgage Bonds. If it is not, the
charter provides that after the road is completed,
ami until saiii bonds and interest are paid, at
least live per cent, of the net earnings of llie road
shall he applied to such payment.
The Union Pacific Bonds are for Si,ooo each, and
have coupons attached. They have thirty years
to run, ami hear annual Interest, payable on Hie
llrst duvs of January and July at the Company’s
Ollice in the City of New York, at the rale of six
per cent. In gold. Tin* principal Is payable in
gold at maturity. At (he present rate of gold,
t hese bonds pay an amuml Income on their cost

price of their bonds to a rale above par at any
