lAbout ton days after the adjournment
ftbe Jate Democratic State Convention,
fc following statement appeared in the
|nslilngton correspondence of the New
fork Tribune:
It 1 It will bo remembered that (he late
Bpperhead Convention of Pennsylvania,
Rcr nominating Mr. Clymor for Govor

fesiclent’s policy. A sub-committee
Es appointed to come on hero and pre-
Et the resolution in person. This grato
g mission was essayed a few evenings
Hoc. The committee was' admitted to
K audience with the President, and
fore proceeding, after the most approved
fikion, to assure him that the Democra-
Kof Pennsylvania had designed no emp-
Icompliment; that they had watched
m recent action with no ordinary grati-
Bvtion; and that they should stand by
En and his administration so long tm lie
Enobiy adhered to the sacred Conatitu

President broke in u'pon thomivlth
te suggestion that ‘the wisest lining
fey could do was to go home and change
Sir ticket.’ He believed tliat they had
Kde a latal mistake in nominating such
man, especially at this particular time,

|y reply, but within the last few days f
Ivo received letters from valued friends
forming mo (hat lam referred to as
jving been one of the alleged “ sub-com
ittee,” and making enquiries of me as
[the truth or falsity of the above ailega
ins. In reply, therefore, to those en
lirics, and to the end that the unfound-

fl had tile honor to preside over the dc
berations of the Democratic State Con

litis false that any committee or suli
bmmittoe was appointed by theC'onven
fon or by its presiding officer to proceed
| Washington to present to the Prcsi
|nt its resolution approving his policy,
I for any other purpose whatever. No
lotion was over made in the Convention,
pr was any adopted of that nature, nor

isenting it, go to Washington on any

lixed and unadulterated falsehood.
the end of the week in which
le Convention assembled, 1, in compa
y with other Democratic Pennsylvania
enators and members, visited ’ Wasli-
Igton, and, while there, I and the Hon.
I. B. Beardsloe embraced the opportu
nity of satisfying a long-cherished desire
B pay our respects to the XTesident, and
| assuring him of our cordial approval
| his restoration policy, and of his veto
I that iniquitous measure, the Froed-
Ben’s Bureau Bill. During the inter
aew, the proceedings of our Convention
lerc referred to and 1 took occasion to
pure tlie President of the sincerity and
Enanimity with which his policy was
jipported by its members. The resolu-
Joas of our Convention were alluded to
y the President—he remarking that they
fere clear, pointed, concise, and that
hoy could not be misunderstood.
■ The candidate of our party.was not, at
|\y time or in any way directly or indi
|clly referred to by ‘the President or
Uirselves. Nothing occurred during the
pterview which rendered it proper or
Jecessary ; nor did the President, by any
Kpression or suggestion, lead us to sus
jeet that ho was unfriendly to Mr. Cly
jber. The visit was truly gratifying to
jursclvcs, and we have no reason to doubt
jut that it was acceptable to him.
| I may here state ujxm the veiny hitjhest
mhoritj/, that the President himself om-
Jhatieally repudiates and denies that he
fas ever, to any one, made any statement
It reference to the nomination of Mr.
flymer, which could by possibility be
prtured into the expression or sentiments
jtlributed to him in the foregoing ex
pot. It lias been left for the malice and
hendaoity of disappointed and chagrined
Ijsunionists to give a version to an inter
view of private gentlemen with the Pres
flenl, which would be most in accordance
pith their hopes and desires, but which
jnfortunately for them mid their aims, is
Jilsc and unfounded in each and every
barfir-ular.

The excitements of late have been
mimy, (he eclipse of the moon has given some
people black eyes, by letting the blackened glass
fall on tbelr eyes, the vetoing of the Freedman's
Bureau Bill and Civil Rights Bill by the Presi

heads among the politicians and made others re
joicing. The decision of the U. H. Supreme Court
in regard to Military trials, makes some fear that
Jeff. Davis will now be pardoned, while others
think the decision necessary for the liberty of
the people. But the greatest excitement Is the
downward tendency of gold, which has reduced
the prices of goods considerably at Julius Neu
