V" THE WEEKLY
PATRIOT AND
for tUe Campaign ot 1865.
Tho political campaign just opening in Penn
sylvanians destined to bo one of great importance,
and to hnyo a powerful influence upon tho future
of tho country at large. In a great measure it
will determine tho gubernatorial contest ot IbOb,
and hava ah influence upon tho presidential elec
tion two years thereafter. But, more important,
it wHI probably determine the choice of the next
U. S. Senator from, this State, and thus affect tho
legislation of Congress and tho restoration of
peace to.nll tho land. It is therefore, of vital im
portance .that every exertion should bo made by
every pmiphor of our party to secure the victory.
Not only fhould every local organization bo put
to wo'jkj but every honorable ■ means should bo
adopted, to stir up tho apathetic and lukewarm,
and to make now votes by conversion. It can on
ly bo through the immutable and golden princi
ples cif Democracy that tho country can bo rc
deomccL'fyotn the thraldom of fanaticism, degre
datiott ‘ and taxation. Outside IUo -Democracy
there afe-no principles. Tho rule of action ot the
opposition is over changing—one thing to-day—
something else to-morrow. It is held together
merely by expedients —tho latest and most outra,-
goous of all being tho modern, six-mouths politi
cal trick of nc£ro suffrage. To defeat this, and
all other schemes‘of the Abolition shoddy hordes
who live onl, ’.o plunder and tyrannize, let every
Democrat arouse and gird on tho rusty armor of
hia fathers in Democracy—of Washington, of Jef
ferson, of Jackson; and march to battle and to
victory! •
TIIS WEEKLY PATRIOT AND UNION.
As tho Contra! organ of the Democratic party
the Weekly Patriot and Union has acquired a
largo and'more diffused circulation than any oth
er Democratic journal in tho Stale. It has here
tofore occupied an influential position as an able
and industrious worker in the cause of Democra
cy, and its friends say that it still continues to be
a valuable organ of tho party. It is not for us,
however, to puff our own work. If wo have been
faithful to tho cause of the party and tho country,
*7O hope eycry Democrat will make it l an object to
extend oyr field'of operations, by adding to our
list of subscribers. Tho low price of tho Weekly,
in comparison with tho amount of matter furnish
ed, makes it one of tho cheapest of newspapers.—
Wo hope orcry good Democrat who roads ibis will
send lua name and $2 50 for a copy for one year.
If this ia too much for those who are very poor,
lot all such send us fifty cents each, and receive
the Weekly Patriot and Union for tho campaign.
The following arc tho terms :
