whbreupon tho namo of tho person so admit ted to vote 1 shall ho inserted in the alphabetical list, by the Inspectors, and a note made opposite thereto by writing tho word ‘tax,'if ho shall ho admitted to vote by reason of having paid tax, or the word *age if bo shall ho admitted to votc.hy reason of age, and in either ease, tlje reason of such voto shall bo called out to tho Clerks, who shall , make tho like note iu tho list of voters kept by him. “In all cases where the name of tho person clai ming to, voto is not found on the list furnished by the commissioners or assessors, or his right to vote wheth er found thereon or not, is objected to by any quali fied citizen, it shall bo the duty of the Inspectors to examine such person on oath as toliis qualifications,, and if ho claims to have resided in the State for ono year-or more, his oath shall ho sufficient proof there of, but lie’shall make proof by at least ono qninpo tent witness, Who shall be a qualified elector, that ho has resided ewithin the district for more than ton days j next imqiediatclv preceding such election, and shall 1 also himself swear that his bona fide residence, in pursuance of his lawful culling, is within tho district* i and-that ho did not remove iu tho said district for i the purpose of voting therein. , “ as nforcshid, and Who shall make due . poof, if required, of his residence and payment of taxes, as aforesaid, shall be admit ted to voto in tho township, ward or district in which ho shall reside. , “If any person shall preventer attempt to prevent an officer of the election under this net from holding such election, or use or threaten any violence to any such officer, or shall interrupt or improperly interfere with him in tho execution of his duty, shall block or attempt to block up tho window or avenue to any window where tho same may bo holding, or shall riotously disturb the peace of auid.elcction, or shall use or practice any intimidation, threats, force orVi-- olencc with the design to influence unduly or over awe any elector, or to prevent him from voting/qr to restrain.tho freedom of choice, such person on con viction shall ho iiued in any sum not exceeding five hundred dollars, and to bo imprisoned for a time not less than ono or more than twelve months, and if it shall be shown to tho court where tho trial of such offence shall he had, that tho person so offending was not a resident of the'eity, ward, district or town ghip where tho said offence was committed, ami not entitled to vote therein, then, on the conviction ho shall be sentenced to pay a fine of not less than one hundred nof more than ono .thousand dollars, and to bo imprisoned'not less than six mojiths nor more than two years. ’ “ If any person of persons shall make any bet or upon tho result of auy election within this commonwealth, or shall offer to male: u-ny such hot oa wager, either by verbal proclamation thereto, or by any written or printed advertisement, challenge or invito any person or persons to make such bet or wa ger, upon conviction thereof, ho or they shall forfet. and pay three times the' amount so but or to he bet “ If any person not by law qualified, shall fraud ulently vote at an election in this commonwealth, or being otherwise qualified, shall voto out'of his prop er district, or if any person knowing the want of such qualification, shall aid or procure such person to voto, tho person, on conviction, shall ho fined in any sum not exceeding two hundred dollars, and bo impris oned for any term not exceeding three Months. “ If any person shall voto at more than ono olco i tj on district, or otherwise fraudulently voto more than once on the same day, or shall fraudulently fold or I deliver to the Inspector two tickets together, with tho intent illegally to vote, or shall procure an other 1 8 0 to do, bo or they offending, shall on conviction bo fined In any sum not less than fifty nor more than five hundred dollars, and bo imprisoned for an v term not less than three nor more than twelve A ny person not qualified to voto in this com uioiiweaifh, agreeably to law, (except the sons of mi alined eiihsns) shall appear at any place of elec tibn fof the purpose ol issuing tickets or of inllu oncing tilt citizens qualified to vote, bo shall on con viction forfeit and pay any sum not exceeding one hundred dollats, for every such offence, and be im prisoned for an, term not exceeding three ..noiilhs.
