jiftiaivß, Jonw «fc Eiian*. —Well, gentlemen, your
Iloollaud’s German .Bitters has saved my life.
There is no. mistake in this. It is vouched for by
numbers my comrades, some of whoso names
are appended, and ivho were fully- cognizant of all
the circumstances of .my case, il am, and have
bpon for the last four years, a member of Sherman's
celebrated. battery, and under the -ilnmouiato'
uoriuuaiid of Captain 11. B. Ayers. Through the
exposure attendant upon my arduous duties, I was
aeked in November last with inilaiiiation of the
..ngs, and was fQrsovonty-twoda.ys.iu the.hospital.
This was followed by great debility, heightened by
an attack of dysentery. , I was then removed from
the White House, and sent to this city on board
the Steamer “ State of Maine," from which-1 land
ed oh the 2Sth of, Juno. Since that tiulo I hayo
been about as low as any one could be.and still re
tain a spark of vitality. For a week or more.l was
scarcely able to swallow anything, and if X did force
a morsel down, it was immediately thrown up
again. ' .
I could not oven keep a glass of water on my
stomach. Life could not last under those circum
stances : and, according!}', the physicians who
•had boon working faithfully, though unsuccessful
ly, to. rescue mo from the grasp of.the dread Arch-1
er, frankly told mO they could do:no. more for mo, j
and advised me to see-a clergyman, and to make
such’disposition of my limited funds as best suitbd
mo.. An acquaintanceSvho visited mo at the hospi
tal, Mr. Frederick Stciubron, of Sixth below Arch
Street, advised mo, as a forlorn hope, to try your
-Hitters, and kindly procured a bottlh. From the
.time I commenced taking them the gloojpy shadow!
of death receded, and J am now, thank Clod fqr it/
gottingibottor. Though I have takon'bufc t>fo bot

f' being permitted to rejoin my wife - and
lighter, from whom I have hoard nothing for
ween months, : for, gentlemen, I am a loyal

■ invaluable Hitters I owe the certainty of life
which has taked the place of.vague fears—to your
Hitters will I owe the, glorious privilege of again
