John W. Houck, esq., has been appointed
Post master at Eagle Foundry. This is a
capital appointment.
An overcoat is a good thing to have
about you these very cool nights., With out it
you may need quinine.
Henry Quarry, esq., bas been appointed post
master at Calvin, this county. This is a very
satisfactory appointment.

NEWTIN HAMILTON. —Yule Camp
Meeting has made Newton, for the time, one of
the most important stations on the main line.
The most extensive arrangements have been
made by the Railroad Company for conveying
passengers and baggage to and from the
grounds. Nearly all the trains will stop du
ring the continuance of the meeting. A large
platform has been erected on the side of the
track towards the camp, and an excellent walk
leads to the grove, which is but a short did
tance from the station. The grounds have
been greatly improved since last year, and a
large number of new tents erected. The ‘de
mand for accommodations, however, has, s o
far, exceeded the expectation of the Associa
tion, that the number; large as if isi ; 44ll)not
be sufficient,. An application for twenty tents
from the City of Philadelphia had to be re
fused on this account, much to the regret of
all parties. Temporary structures lr. - e been
erected for some who would take no denial .
It will be a necessity to greatly enlarge the
capacity ,of the grqnpd by ! another, season.
Arrivals of baggage and people have been
constant since Friday last.
Although a large number is already on the
ground, as many more arc expected before
long. Services were to be held last evening
and this morning, unless the weather should
prevent. The nnmber of ministers on the
ground is as yet comparatively few .—Lewis

Yesterday was truly the great day
of the feast at the Juniata Valley
Camps' The people came ip in
large numbers to the Tented Grove,
and the worship was sincere on the
part of a vast majority of those
in attentlan&.• Saturday evening's
trains brought immense crowds, add
the number present during the eve
ning was unparalleled in the history
of the meeting. It has been inti
timated that more were in the con
gregations of Saturlay evening than
on Sunday of last year. The order
was good throughout all the exer
cises, had do rowdying of a serious
character was anywhere to be ob
served. The sermon in No. 1 Circle
was preached by Rev. J. S. Beyers,
of the Virginia Conference, from

, Coriuthians, sth chap., 14th and
15th verses. It was an effort of
great power and deep thought, and
brought hearty responses from the
hearts of the hearers. The sermon
in No. 2 Circle was preached by
Rev. G. D. Penuypaeker. The
large congregation, in this instance,
was held by the i)ower and eloquence
of the speaker, and loud amens !
and hallelujahs ! resounded from
every part of the assembly. The
rules of the camp were strictly ob
served in closing the meetings at
the hour announced, and by 10f
o'clock, comparative quiet reigned
throughout the vast camp.

SUNDAY MORNING
dawned auspiciously, and at an early
hour the people began to pour in
from every quarter. Every train
was loaded to its utmost capacity,
and many curie iii vehicles from
quite a distance. At 10 o'clock it
was estimated that at least 10,000
people were on the camp ground.
Every nook and corner was crowd
ed with eager visitors, and it was
nest to impossible to get through
the streets at some points. The ser
vices of the day were begun with a
prayer meeting at 6 o'clock, in the
Tabernacle. The attendance here
was not what it should have been,
but the early hour and the coolness
of the morning no doubt deterred
many from beiug.present who would
have otherwise enjoyed it. This
was followed by preaching at 8 o'-
clock, bylleV: T. Barnhart, in Circle
No. 1, from Ezekiel, xi, and 19 and
20th verses. The sermon was a very
powerful one, and the subject was
handled with the well-known skill
and ability of the gentleman who
preached it. The sermon, at the
same hour, in Circle No. 2, was
preached by Re". J. Cleaver,
from Ist Corinthians, chap., and
23d to 26th verses. There, too, the
people were treated to a "feast of
fat things" from the lips of God's
servant. The earnestness and power
of the speaker took • hold of every
heart. The 10 o'clock services be
gan promptly at that hour. In No.

degree of activity to-day, but the demand, as heretofor,
