' Thus treated, I am confident that each

fertilizing ptoperties so freely to the
first crop that follows its application.
I have load that, did notyield (in past

hay per annum when I bought it,
that now yields at least throe tune of
good hay per annum ; audits renova

I'o ' those who have a good stock of
animal s , with :Muck convenient to

any other treatment than the forego
ingj but there are many whose Muck-
beds lie at the back of their farm 4,
two or three hundred rode from the
their barns; while they wish to fertil
ize the fields in this quarter, which
have been slighted in former applica
tions because of the distance over
which manure had to be hauled. If
these possess or can buy good hard
wood, house-made Ashes at twenty
five cents or less per bushel, I. would
say, Mix these well, at the rate of two

packer or wholesale grocer, apply this
as you would have applied• the Ashes,
but in rather larger quantity; and, if
you b - hii . get A - Aohlior Salt,use
quick Lime, as fresh and hot from the
kiln, as you : can apply it. The ,best
Limo is that from burned Oyster-
Shelle ; I - consider - this, if nowise sluic
ed, nearly equal to refuse Salt; but
Oyster-Shells Lime hi too dear at most
inland points; and here„the,, refuse of
the kilns—that which,is not „good
enough for mason-work must be
used. Usually, the lime-burner has a
load - or more of this at the clearing
out of every kiln, which he will sell
quite cheap,if it be taken out of his
way at once; and this should be look
ed for and secured. Being inferior in
quality, (often because imperfectly
burned), it should be applied in larg
er quantity—not less than four bush
els to each. cord of Muck.
I will not-hero describe the process
of miXingSalt with'Line: commended
by Prof:Maples, becalm it is not cagy
to bring these two, ingredients togeth
er so as to mix them with the, Muck
as it is dug : and, though .1 have used
them after Prof. Maples's recipe, and
purposeito do so hereafter, I do not
feel certain that' any positive advant
age results from . their blendecl appli
cation as a Chloride of Lime. If I
should gain further light' on this point
before completing this series, I shall
not fail to impart it.
