—Chief , Engineer Fulton writes us
that he has completed the survey 'and
'field work on the route of the propos

and will be ready to furnish an esti

believed Abet Mr. Fulton has obtained
the best, safest and most economical
route yet presented, kith the most
moderate 'grades, aone of ; ef , bleb 'exceed
thirty-six feet per mile. It is propos

thence along the Eolith. side to near

Hollidaysburg pike at the beginning
of Richard street, in Bedford. The

VW - Monday next is decoration day.
We are pleased to note that some pre
parations are being made by the
Grand Army of the Republic of this
place, to observe the National Memor

remembrance the deeds of the patriots
who 'now sleep beneath the sod, and
nothing

time and strewing them with flowers.
It is a custom !Wiest/paid. ne ver grow
old, as every year there is another sot..
dier mdatered on the 'roll of the - de:
parted, and since the last decoration
day, several of the "brave . boys" • have
departed, and two but tecently under
very sad circumstances. Let us gath
er, then, to the Cemetery, en Monday
next, and observe the day in thoughts
of those whom we should over delight
to honor.
A SitAmE.—Wo doubt whether there
is one citizen in our midst who did not
feel a tinge - of shame on learning that
there was a very meagre attendance
at the lecture of Rev. J. D. Brown on
India, on Friday evening last. We
think it showed very bad treatment to
one who left our town to endure the
perils of mission life; bit we sincere
ly hope Mr. 11 will afford us another
opportunity of hearing his lecture, and
we hope our citizens will lay aside for
once at least their repugnance and pre
judice to lectures and"give him a large
audience. A missionary who went
from our own midst is certainly wor
thy to be heard; nor would we like to
have it to say that a missionary is
without honor in his own country.
