TUESDAY, OCTOBER 13th, 1863
Pursuant to an act of the General Assembly of the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, entitled "An Act relit•
Clog to the elections of this Commonwealth," approved
the second day of July, 1330, I, JAMES P.
URST, High Sheriff of tine county of Huntingdon,
Pennsyvlania, do hereby maks known and glen notice to
the electors of the comity aforesaid, that an election will
be held to the said county of Huntingdon, on the 2d
Tuesday after the first Monday. of October, (being the
13th day of OCTOBER,) at which time State, District
and County officers will bo elected, to wit:
One person to Oil the office of Auditor General of the
commons cattle of Pennsylvania.
One person to fill the office of Sorveyor General of the
commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
• One person to represent the counties of Blair,
Cambria and Huntingdon, In Congress of the United
States.
Two persons to represent the counties of Huntingdon,
Juniata and Mifflin, in tins House of Representatives of
no commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
One person to fill tine office of Sheriff of llnntingilon
county.
One person to fill the office of Comity Commissioner:of
Huntingdon county.
Coo person to Ell the office of Director of the Poor of
Iluntingdon county.
One person to fill the office of Surveyor of Huntingdon
county.
Ono person to Oil the °Moo of Auditor of Huntingdon
county.
Ono person to fill the Mike of Coroner of Huntingdon
county.

give notice, that the places of holding the aforesaid spe
cial election in the several election districts within the said
county of Huntingdon, are no follows, to wit

That all that part of Shirley township, Huntingdon coun
ty, lying and being within the ing described boun
daries, (except the borough of Mount Union,) namely:
Beginning at the intersection of Union and Shitley
township lines with the Juniata river, on the south lido
thereof; thence along said Union township lino for the
distance of three miles from said riser; thence east
wardly, by it straight line, to the point a hero the main
from Bby's mill to Germany vnl loy, crosses the summit of
Sandy ridge; thence northWardly along the summit of
Sandy ridge to the river Juniata, and thence lip said river
to the pine° of beginning, shall hereafter form a separate
olection district; that the qualified voters of said election

Warm Springs, to the Pranklin township line on the top

28th district, composed of Juniata township, at rho honso
of John reightal, on the lands of Henry Isenberg.

erected out of a part of tho territory of Toil township, to
wit: commencing at a Chestnut Oak, on the summit Ter
race mountain, at the Ifopewell township line opposite t h e
dividing ridge, In the Little Valley; thence south fifty-two
degrees, east three hundred and sixty perches, to a stone
heap on the Western Summit of Broad Top mountain
'thence north sixty-seven degrees, east Mom hundred and
twelve perches, to a yellow pine; thence south fifty-two
degrees, east seven hundred and seventy-two patches, to a
Chestnut Oak; thenco south fourteen deg: cal, oast thrco
hundred and fifty ono perches, to a Chestnut at the east
end of Henry B. Oreen'e land; thence south thirty-one and
a half degrees, east two hundrod and ninety-four notches,
to a Chestnut Oak 013 the summit of a spur of Broad Top,
en rho western side of John Torrel's farm; south, sixty.
five degrem; east nine hundred and thirty-four perches, to
a stone heap on the Clay township lino, at the Public
School House, iu the villago of Dudley.
30th district, composed of the borough of Coalmont, at
the public school house iu said borough.
31st district, composed of Lincoln township, beginning
at a pine on the summit of Tussey mountain on the line
batsmen Blair and Huntingdon counties, thence by the
division line south. fifty-eight dogmas cast seven hund
rod and ninety-eight perches to a black oak in middle of
township; thence fovty-two and one half degrees east
eight hundred and two perches to a pine on summit of
Terrace; the= by lino of Tod township to corner of Penn
' township; thence by the lines of the township of Penn to
the summit of Tussey mountain; thonco along said eon.

32st distriot, composed of the borough of Mapleton, at
the Grant school house in said borough.

I also make known and glee notice, as in and by the
13th section of the aforesaid act I on, directed, that "ev
ery person, excepting justices of the peace, who shall
hold any 011C/3 or appointment of profit or trust under
the government of the United States, or of this State, or
of any city or Corporated district, whether a commission
ed officer or agent, who Is or shall be employed nnder
the legislative, executive or judiciary department of this
State, or of the United States, or of any city or incorpo
rated district, and also, that every member of Congress,
sad of the State Legislature, and of tiro select or com
mon council of any city, commissioners of any incorpora
ted district, is by law incapablo of holding or exercising
at the mama tlMe,tho once or appointment of judge, in
spector or clerk of any election of this Commonwealth,
and that no Inspector or judge, or other officer of any
such election shall bo eligible to any office to bo then vo
ted for." . _
Also, that in the 411, section of tbe Act of Assembly,
entitled "Au Act relating to executions and for *other
purposes;' approved April 16th, 1840, it is enacted that
the aforesaid 13th section "shall not be no construed as
to prevent any militia or borough officer from nerving as
judge, or inspector or clerk of any general or special
election In this Commonwealth."
In accordance with the provision of the MI, section of
an act entitled "A. further supplement to the ejection
Laws of this Commonwealth," I publish the following:
W0000i.9, By the act of the Congress of the United
States, entitled "an act to amend the several nets hereto
fore passed to provide for the enrolling and calling out of
the national forces, and for other purposee,"and approved
March 3d, 1805, all persons who have deserted the milita
ry or naval service of the 'united States, and who have not
been discharged or relieved from the penalty or disability
therein provided, are deemed and taken to have volunta
rily relinquished and forfeited their rights of citizenship
and their rights to become citizens, and are deprived of
oxercleing any rights of citizens thereof;
AM whereas, Persons not citizens of the United States
are not, under the Cendiftltion and laws of Pennsylvania
qualified electors of this Commonwealth.
'SECTION 1. Be it enacted, do, That in ail elections here
after to bo held In this Commonwealth, it shall be unlace
fat for the Judge or inspectors of any such election to re
ceive any ballet or ballots from any person or persons
embraced in the provisions and subject to the disability
imposed by said act of Cougressamproved March 3ii, 1860,
and it shallbo union ful for any each person to offer to
Soto any ballot or ballots. -
Soc. 2. That Many such judge and inspectors or erection,
or any one of them shall receive or consent to receive any
such unlawful ballot er ballots from any such disqualified
person, he or they so offending shah be guilty of a mis
demeanor, and en construes thereof in any Court of quar
ter sessions of this commonwealth; he shall for each of be sentenced to pay a tine of not less than one bill,'
drcd dollars, and to undergo an imp, isonment Is tho jail
of the proper county for not less than sixty days.
Sec. 3. That If hay poison deprived of citizenship, - nod
as aforesaid, shall, at any election hereafter
to bo held in this commonwealth, vole, or tender to the
officers thereof, and offer to vote, a ballot or ballots, any
person so offending shall bo deemed guilty of a misdo•
meaner, and on conviction thereat,. any ceutt of quarter
sessions of this commonwealth, shall for each offence be
punished in like manner as is provided in the preceding
section of this act in coos of smears of election receiving
any such unlawful ballot or ballots.

kiscrtex 4. That if any person shall hereafter persuade
or advise any person or persons, deprived of citizenship
or disqualified as aforesaid, to offer any ballot or ballots
to the officers of any erection hereafter to ho held in this
Commonwealth, or shall persuade, oe advise, nay such
officer to receive any ballot, or ballots, from any nelson
deprived of citizenship, and disqualified as aforesaid, atiah
parson so offending shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and
upon conv}Cbiell thereof in any ,court or quarter sessions
of this Coraionirealth, mail be p,unished In like manner
is provided in the second section of this net in the rase of
officers of such election receiving such unlawful ballot or
ballots.
Particular attention is directed to tho first section of
the Act of Assembly, passed the 30th day of March A. D.,
1806, entitled "An Act regulating the manner of Voting
at all Elections, in the several counties of this Common.

"That tho qualified raters of the several counties of this
Commonwealth, at all goncral, township, borough and
',jovial elections, RIO hereby, hereafter, authorised and
tequit col to fete, by tickets, printed or written, or partly
in lilted and partly written. bet-molly classified as fol lows:
One ticket shall embrace the names of all Judges of coutts
voted for, and be labelled outside ndiciat y;" one ticket
sit all embiace all the names of State officers voted tor,
end be labelled "State;" one ticket shall ombraeo the
names of all county °Meets sated for, Including office of
Senator, member, and membeis of Assembly, if voted for,
end members of Congress, if voted for, and labelled
"county;' one titket shall embrace the names of all too R
OM. officers voted for, mid be labelled "too nship;" one
ticket shall embrace the names of all borough officers
voted for, and ha labelled "btrough ;" and each class shall
be deposited In separate ballot boxes.
Pursuant to rho pros isions contained In the 67th section
of the act aforesaid, the judges of the aforesaid districts
shall respectively take charge of the cm Uncap 'or return
of the election of their respective districts, rind produce
them at a meeting of ono of the judges front each district
at the Court House, in the borough of Huntingdon, on the
third day after the day of election, being for the present
year on Friday, the 11th of October next, then and there
to do and perform the duties required by law of said Judges.
Also, that where a judge by ShIIIIICEIS or unavoidable tied;
dent, ha unable to attend said meeting of judges, then the
certificate or return aforesaid shall he taken In charge by
ono of the liespectors or clerks of the election of said dis
t, let, and shall do and perform the duties required of said
judge unable to attend.
Also, that In the 61st section of said act it is enacted
that "every general and special election shall be opened
between the hours of eight and ten in the forenoon, end
shall continue without interrnption or adjournment un
til semen o'clk: in the evening, when the polls shall ho
closed." '
