Plant Largely.
Our Western exchanges aro very
properly calling the attention -of the
farmers to the present great scarcity
of breadstuffs and cearse grains through
out the country, and consequently to
the importance of planting more than
usual breadth of land in such crops.
The advice should ho heeded. There
is now no surplus in any of the ' Wes
tern States, and the, exorbitant rates
at which wheat and ether cereals are
now selling will in all probability he
kept up beyond the present season, if
they are not increased, unless the
farming community pay prompt at
tention to the matter. In most of the
Western cities, flour is selling for $lB,OO
per barrel, wheat for $3 50 per bushel,
and corn 75 to 80 cents per bushel,and
the receipts are small even at these
prices. The papers complain that the
season is unusually backward and un
promising, and farmers may fool some
discouragement on this account, as
well as on
,account of the stringency
of the money market and the high
price of everything they have to
buy ; but there is a certain guarantee
of remunerative prices for everything
they can raise for a long time to comp.
Every farmer in this country should
plant all be can positively cultivate
during the present season and care
for in harvest. The demands of our in
creasing population will fail to bo met,
and the material interests of the coun
try will seriously suffer, unless this is
done. Our advice to our farming
friends is to plant largely.
THE Caors.—From all parts of the
country there come favorable reports
of the crops, and since the grain has
escaped the severity of the winter, un
injured, it is not premature to antici
pate an abundant harvest. This is
always a gratifying prospect, for the
entire community is vitally affected
by the aggregate yield of grain
throughout the country. Tho only
exceptions to this favorable prospect
are in tho overflowed regions of the
Southern States especially Louisiana,
where the cotton and sugar crops are
ruined by water, so that it will be im
possible in many places to grow any
thing more than a small crop of corn
during the present season. Apart
from this calamity, the yield of cotton
and corn in the South will be larger
this year than it has been any season
since the beginning of the war. The
South is sorely in need of good crops,
if the ensuing harvest proves all that
appearances now promise, a great part
of the distress that exists in the South
ern States will be relieved, and hotter
provisions can be made for next win
ter. If the crops should fail, the con
dition of the South will be deplorable
in the extreme, but there is no cause
for any alarm at present..
IMPORTATION OF WHEAT.—Official
advices have boon received at the
Treasury Department at Washington,
which' indicate rather a remarkable
state of things regarding the grain
trade between this country and Eng
land, viz :—The shipment of no less
than 40,000 bushels of wheat from
Liverpool . to New York. The two
steamers of the Inman line, which left
Liverpool on the 6th inst., brought
8330 bushels. The City of Baltimore,
which arrived at New York, on Wed
nesday, brought 10,000 bushels. The
steamship Queen, of.the National Na
vigation Line, which left Liverpool on
the 10th, also took 22,291 bushels as
a part of her cargo. These - five steam
ers sailed within seven days. This
state of things naturally attracts much
attention.
Mr. Lyman B. Sanford writes to the
New York farmer's Club that while in
Canada lately, ho paid an old English
farmer ton dollars for a secret remedy
for the disease in cows of abortion,which
was simply to feed with the salt to
each one about a teaspoonful of bon e
pounded or ground to a dust. As a
result in a dairy of 32 cows he had
lost none, while his neighbor's flocks
were as badly afflicted as ever.—./Vew

SLOBBERING IN B.ORSES.-A corres
pondent of The Boston Obitivator says
that this is a disease in horses. Salt
peter, a tablespoonful for a dose, he
has found to cure the worst case he
ever had, and has not found it neces
sary ever to give a fourth dose. Re
gives a tablespoonful in the morning,
and in three days, if the horse is not
free from it, ho repeats the dose.

The Act of Congress approved July 28, 1868. gives $lOO
additional bounty to all soldiers who enlisted for three
years and were discharged by renown of expiration of
service, or who were discharged for wounds received in
battle and who have not received more than $l.OO bounty
for such service. An additional bounty of VA is also al•
lowed to the nearest rehstive of soldiers who enlisted for
a term of three yams and who died or wore killed in the
service, to be paid In the following, order: First, to the
widow ;second, to the children; third, to the father, and
fourth, to the mother.

Size and Plan of the Marriage Certificate
The size of the Certificate is 19 by 14 Inches. It con
labia a beautiful figure representing the union of two
hearts. Above the figure is written in beat:titan; orna
mented German Text the words "Photograph Marriage
Certificate." There are three spaces hi the figure: on the
space In the center the Certificate proper is written. The
words, "two hearts in one" form an arch over the Certifi
cate proper, and immediately under the arch there Is a
beautiful figure representing the Joining of hands, and
where the centre apace conies to a point there is a picture
'of two beautiful turtle doves. On the specs to the left
there is a place for the photograph of the gentleman and
under it we have the Words, "To the Husband," in ornad
mental text, under which we have selections of Scripture
passages addressed to the husband. On the left aide of
the engraving we have a place for the Photograph of the
