The Harrisburg Telegraph says : We
learn that well dressed,smooth.tongued
scamps are travelling over the country,
having with them a model hay and ma
nure loader, with which they are gull
ing farmers most outrageously. Their
mode of operations is to visit the prin
cipal farmers, exhibit their model, sell
a right to use it, and give an order on
a manufacturing establishment, where
they pretend to have a contract for the
manufacture of the implement, receiv
ing in exchange the farmer's note,
which 'they immediately convert into
money,•at a discount, and clear out. It
is probable that some of the patent.
right venders will visit this county,
and farmers should exercise duo vigi

A Bold Readlonl
The editor of the Aughwich Herald
has been'in the west for several weeks
leaving his paper in the management
of a ludy, whereupon the Huntingdon
Journal grows fearfully bold and fights
the woman with the ferociousness of a
terrier. Oh, yotr are a valiant "purp,"

couldn't intimidate you: You ought
to go to,Baltimore. Your warlike form
of itself would preserve the, peace.—

A New School House
Several gentlemen in town, patrons
of Mrs. Sarah Welch's• school, have
built on a lot in the rear of the Court
House, a very handsome and conveni

is an ornament to the town and will
be complete in every particular when
finished.
The Mozart Association
This association, of this place, gave
an entertainment at Bloody Bun on
Friday evening last, which consisted
of vocal and instrumental music, bur

which filled the room, appeared to ap

troupe.

Peterson's Magazine
We are in the receipt of this popular
Lady's Magazine for December. It is
a splendid number. The title page
alone is worth the price of the num
ber. For many years "Peterson's
Magazine," in consequence of its merit
and cheapness, has bad a larger circu
lation than any other monthly in the
United States. In 1867 it will be
greatly Improved the reading matter
will be increased, and each number will
contain a Double-Size Steel Fashion
Plate, elegantly colored, with from four
to six figures—making "Peterson" the
cheapest in the world. The terms will
remain two dollars a year. To clubs
it is cheaper stilt, viv, : five copies for
88,00, eight copies for $12,00, or four
teen copies for 820,00. To every per.
son getting up a club (at these rates,)
the Publisher will send an extra copy
gratis. Specimens sent (if written for)

$9. If, say ode-fourth of. Indian meal
is mixed with it, the bread is nineti
sweeter, and does not become stale • so
soon. My family use it in preference
when both uro on the table.
