On the evening of Tuesday, the first day of the Convention, a public meet ing.was held,in the Court Ileum The room'was.. crowded to overflowing. Mr. B. IL - Chita°, of Boston, delivered a lecture on Temperance, in a very el oqueniatid instructive manner. Some even expressed the opinion that he is superior to Mr. Gough as a temperance speaker. 7 ' A V. lair. R. B. The Harrisburg Telegraph says : We learn that well dressed, smooth.tongued scamps are travelling over the country, having with them a model hay and ma nure loader, with which they are gull ing farmers most outrageously. Their mode of operations is to visit the prin cipal farmers, exhibit their model, sell a right to use it, and give an order on a manufacturing establishment, where they pretend to have a contract for the manufacture of the implement, receiv ing in exchange the farmer's note, which 'they immediately convert into money,•at a discount, and clear out. It is probable that some of the patent. right venders will visit this county, and farmers should exercise duo vigi lance to detect them. A Bold Readlonl The editor of the Aughwich Herald has been'in the west for several weeks leaving his paper in the management of a ludy, whereupon the Huntingdon Journal grows fearfully bold and fights the woman with the ferociousness of a terrier. It is an ornament to the town and will be complete in every particular when finished. The Mozart Association This association, of this place, gave an entertainment at Bloody Bun on Friday evening last, which consisted of vocal and instrumental music, bur lesques, burlettas, &c.
