We hear that the stodm ie 'up 'for
those who are obliged to go up Salt
Elver this season. Many of our citi
eerie, are-good-naturedly complaining
of their annual fate, and are anxiously
expecting tree passports over the well
known route. As wo have not yet re-
Ceived a "free pass" we: take it for
granted that there is a desire with the
people that we- shall remain at our
post, Whether it is their desire or
-not, we have come to the positive con
.Clu.sion to "stand fast and fear not," and
- wait patiently for future developments.
LtterdrT Soelety..
Some of our young men for a while
past have been talking of starting a
literary society in this place, when on
Saturday evening last they took the
iniatory Step to carry the project into
practidal effect, .by meeting for the
peipose'of ofganization. A committee
was appointed to draft a Constitution,
..which will be submitted sometime this
meek, when the society will be perma
.
:nently (at least we hope so) organized.
There are now a goodly number of
young mon in. .the borough who will
join Ibis worthy enterprise, and desire
the well known advantages from it
which will be for their future welfare.
Thisis a propitious time for the organ
ization of such a society, and we wish
it all the success it justly deserves.
- Wo may.be

next issue.
