The day was ushered in by the ringing of bells, and at I P. M., the m,ointiers of the bar, clergy, little girls made to re. present the different States of the Union, the Mendelssohn Singing As sociation, Ladies' Belief, Independent Qfdi:i' of Good Tempters, with regalia, and the two: fire companies, with on. gines tastefully decorated, collected in the Diamond, preparatory to forming in procession.., The procession was s001:1 declared ready to start, and, led by a brass band and martial music, it proceeded through . the principal streets the citizens falling in the rear. Con spicuoui in tho'procession was a lady on horseback who represented the Goddess of Liberty. Another promi nent feature, and one which caused en amount of laughter and derision, was a ludicrous qf Hgy of Jeff Davis, sus pended by the neck to a gallows; and drawn by a company of boys. After the procession had gone the round of the route, they assembled in front of the Lewistown:Hotel, where they vere treated with an eloquent and patriotic address from Roy. Downs. The crowd then dispersed, and when we left in the evening train the citizens.. were making preparations for an illumine Alen and bonfires in the evening. Throughout the day a vast concourse of people were in town to see tho sights.
