solving It; in a word, the general arrangement of the
OALCULATOR is simple, that any one who knows how to
add, subtract, multiply and divide, can easily solve any or
-divary example that arises in business, or arrive at tl e
true result of any estimate required.
The chief aim of the author has been to eschew theory
and philosophy in figures, aiming only at filets and simpli
city, believing that business men care little about spen
ding time in discussing the philosophy of rules, Of the
science of figures, deeming it sufficient for their purpose
to ho able at a moment, by refureuce, to arrive at the true
result. Tho CALCULATOR differs in this respect from all
other Aritlnneties of the day and kindred works—it is a
key to practical business calculations—it is, in this hands
of the business man, what the key to mathematical works
in the hands of the teacher in the school room—it facill
tales time and Insures 'correctness.
