HUNTINGDON, PA.
Wednesda
morning, March 9, 1864.
LOCAL &.PERSONAL.
A Dodge.
Some of the "sharpers," who are
ambitious of stealing the bounty mon
ey, appear before a Provost Marshal,
• and after being sworn in and getting
their money, immediately desert, pro
viding there is not a strict watch placed
over them, and practice their decep-
Unit and fraud at other places where
bounties are offered. This is some
what similar to the dodge exercised
•soilio thtid tt ti, Upon the drafted men
tvho bought substitutes. Vigilance
upon the part of Provost Marshals
would, we think, remedy this evil.—
We understand that several volunteers
have taken the bounty at Hollidays
burg, and skedaddled immediately for
parts unknbwn.
Lboks Deserted.
The southeast corner of the Dia
mond where formerly stood the "old
red house," owned by Pcistmaster Steel,
presents a deserted appearance since
the removal of the forlorn and dilapi
dated relic. Mr. Daniel Whittaker
bossed the job of removal, and he trade
it skedaddle on the double quick.-.---•
We trust this enviable situation will
not remain long without a brick dwel
ling of a business propensity adorning
the spot. . • •
Wanted
• A few . good gardeners Could find
plenty of employment at this place.—
From the scarcity of gardeners Urea.
bouts, many vines will be left unprun
ed, and shubbery will be unattended
and unprepared for spring,unless some
borticulturists -tender their services to
our public. There may be some good
gardeners in this vicinity; if so, -we
wish they would make .themselves
known.

the.brave "boys" nifty live to give us
another call after the rebellion shall
be crushed out.
