But a short time Las elapsed since

paper; they have an cony gliding motion, a certainty of
equally dttrusing the ink, softness of point, and great du

The tenoning testimonials, selected from numerous

LATOR,
A Book of Plain Rules and Calculations fur Business Ope

lbnreyancer. Near Edition, published by J. B. Li:plAn•
Colt LE Cb., Philadelphia.
This work contains 204 pages, and limier& of 500 Rules
and Examples, entirely and thoroughly practical. itch as
arise every day in the common pursuits of Realness. It
has already passed through n number of editions in rapid
succession, and is pronounced by all classes of business
men to be the handiest book of reference, portatuing to
calculations, that has ever been published.
Every example in the book Is worked out In fall and
stated Inn plain manner, so that when a parallel awe art
sea, those referring to the work 55111 find no difficulty to
solving it ; Ina word, the general arrangement of the
CALCULATOR is simple, that any one who knows how to
add, subtract, multiply mad divide, can easily solve nny or
dinary example that arises in business, or arrive ut tt e.
trite result ofany estimate required.
The chief aim of the author has been to eschew theory
and philosophy In figures, aiming only at facts and simpli
city, believing that business men care little about spen
ding time in discussing the philosophy of rules, of the
science of figures. deeming It sufficient for theft purpose
to be able at a moment, by reference, to arrive at the true
result. The CALCULATOR differs In this-respect from all
other Aritlimeties of the day and kindred works—it is it
key to practical business calculations—it is, in tit hands
of the business man, what the key to mathematical works
in tine hands of the teacher In the school room—lt faell
tate:, time rind insures correctness.
THE WORK TREATS OE THE
