Over $100,000.000 of private capital have been expended
on the railroad system of Illinois. Inasmuch ao part of
the income from several of these works, whir a valuable
public fund in lands, go to diminish the State expenses,
the taxes are light, nud must consequently every day de
crease. .
THE STATE DEBT
The State cinbt is only $10,105,39814, and within the
last three 3 cars has been reduced $2,939.:4050 ; and we
may reasonably expect that in ten 3 est . ° it will become

The State is rapidly fitting up with populntion ; 803,
020 persons has ing been added since 1800, looking the pop

Tho agricultural products of Illinois are greater than
those of any other Slate. The products bent out during
the past year exceeded 1,600,000 tons. The u heat crop of
1800 approaches 35,000,000 bushels, 11 Lillo the corn crop
yields not less than 110,000,000 bushels.

Since 1854 the Company hare sold 1,300,000 acres. They
sell only to actual cultivators, and every toms ract contains
an agreement to cultivate. The road has been constructed
through these lands at an expense of 330,000,000. In 1830,
the population of the 49 counties through which d passes

king the whole population 814,891—a gain of 143 per cent..
