I found this picture on exhibitipn'in a
special brick building' on Chesnut street.
Within there was a parquet floor descend
ing to the foot-lights, and this was cover
ed with benches, where, in the .middle of
the day, about a hundred, peopje, with
descriptive books and opera glasses, were
silently looking down upon the immense
piece of canvass. The side walls were
covered with incomplete sketches which
Mr. Rothermel had made apparently: as
pmoceses toward his accomplished !work,,
and same of these were studies of.figurce,
others of landscape only; and others
again of portrait faces, which be intended'
to paint into the panorama. The great
