MANHOOD TRUNKS, IN THE YOUNG AND RISING GENERATION The vegetative powers of life are strong, but In a few years how often the pallid hue, the lack-lustre eye and emaciated form, and the impossibility of application to mental effort, show Its baneful in fluence. It soon becomes - evident to the observer that some depressing influence is checking the development of the body. Consumption is talked of, and perhaps the youth Is removed from school and sent into the country, This Is one of the worst movements. Removed from ordinary dl "'erelong of the ever-changing scene of the city, the powers of the body, too much enfeebled to give zest to healthful and rural exercise, thoughts are turned inwards upon themselves. If the patient be a female, the approach of the menses Is looked for with anxiety, as the first symptom in which Nature Is to show her saving power In diffusinr the circulation and visiting the cheek with the bloom of health. Alas! increase of appetite has grown by what it fed on; the en ergies -of the system are prostrated, and the whole economy is deranged. The beautiful and wood. erful period In which body and mind undergo so fascinating a change from child to woman, is looked fur in vain: the parent's heart bleeds In anxiety, and fancies the grave but waiting for its victim. RELIMOLVS KITBAG"' Emir, for Weakness arising from excessesor early indiscretion, attend. ed with the following symptoms: Indisposition to Exertion, Loss of Power, Loss of Memory, Diffi culty of Breathing, General Weakness, Horror of Death, Night Sweats, Cold Feet, Wakefulness, Dimness of Vision, Languor, Universal Lassitude of the Muscular System, Often Enormous Appe tite with Dyspeptic Symptoms, Hot Hands, Flush ing of the Body, Dryness of the Skin, Pallid ' Countenance and Eruptions on the Face, Fain in the Back, Heaviness of the Eyelids, Frequeut ly - Black Spots Firing before the Eyes, with Tempo! rary Suffusion and Loss of Sight, Want of Atten tion, Great Mobility, Restlessness, with Horror of Society. Nothing is more desirable to such pa tients than SolitUde, and nothing they more dread, i for Fear of Themselves; no Repose of Manner, no Earnestness, no. Speculation, but a hurried Transition from one question to another. These symptoms. if Allowed to go on—which this Medicine invariatify removes—soon follow Loss of Power, Fatuity, and Epileptic Fits, In one of which the patiiint may expire. During tie Superintendence of Dr. Wilson at the Bloomingdale Asylum, this sad result occur. red to twi patients; reason had for a time felt them, and both died of epilepsy. They were of both sexes, and about twenty years of age. Who can say that-these excesses are not ire quently followed by those direful diseases Insanity and Vorutumptkutt The records of the Insane Asylums, and the melancholy deaths by Consump tion, bear ample witness to the truth of these as sertions. In Lunatic Asylums the most melan choly exhibition appears. The countenance Is actually sudden and quite destitute—neither Mirth or Grief ever visits It. Should a sound of the voice oectir, it is rarely articulate. 'With woeful measures wan Despair Low sullen sounds their grief beguiled." ADVISES COI FLOI Having fee• the a whole time and ant diseases andeonsent fully the couSesel i kat store a tolerably bad healthy soundness. The first anti ant step is for the MReat to avoid taking cold, and the best of all place on this continent or , thisparpoe in winter, is Florida, well down in the Stag, where the temperature is rea a_ ,r and not subject to such variations as in more North. ern latitudes. Palatka is s point I can recom- Mend. A good hotel is kept there by Peterman. • STAR dr SENTINEL' last winter I saw several persons there whose lungs had been badly t tliseased, but who, under the healing influence of the climate and !twined. • !eine, were getting well. One hundred miles further down the river is a , point which I would prefer to Palatka, as the temperature is more even and the air dry and bracing. Mellonville and Enterprise are located there. I should give a decided preference to Mel: BooK AND JOB lonville. It Is two miles from river lake, and It seehis almost impossible to take cold there.— The tables in Fforida might be better, and pa dents complain at times but that Is a good sign. as it iudicates a return of appetite, and when this is the case they generally mcnase In ilesh, and the lungs must heal. A practice so extensive, embracing ev, t) phase of lung disease, has ermined me to ender- t stand the disease fully, and hence, toy ill regard to taking cold. A percon may take vast quantities of "Schetrek's Pulniimie syrup, Sea weed Tonic and Mandrake 1111.4, - and 'yet die If lie does not avolditaking cold. In Florida. neatly every hotly is using Schenck's Mandrake Pills, fOr the ciimate its more likely to produce bilious habits than more northern lati tudes. It is a well established fact that natives of Florida rarely die of consumption, especially those of the southern part. On the other hand, In New England, one-third at least, of the popu lation die of this terrible disease. lu the „Middle States itdoes not prevail so largely, still there are many thousands of cases there. What a vast percentage' of life would be saved if consump tives were as easily alarmed in reward to taking fresh cold as they are about scarlet fever, small pox. &c. But the are not. They take what they term a litte codostitch they are credulous enough to believe r will wear off in a few days.— They pay no attention to it, and hence It lays the foundation for another and another still, until the lump} are diseased beyond all hope for etre. My advice to persons whose lungs are affected even slightly is, today- a stock of Schenck's Put motile Syrup, Sch'enck's Seaweed Tonic and Schenck's Mandrake Pills and go to Florida. I recommend these particular medicines because I am thoroughly acquainted with their action. I know that where they are used in strict accord ance with my directions they will do the work that is required. This accomplished, nature will do the test The physician who prescribes for cold, cough or night-sweats, and then advises the patient to walk or ride out every day, will be sure to have a corpse on his hands before long. My plan Ls to give my three medicines, in ac cordance with the printed directions, except in some cases where a freer use of the Mandrake Pills Li necessary. My object Is to Alye tone to the stomach—to get up a good appetite. It is al. ways a good sign when a patient begins to grow hungry. I have hopes of such. With a relish for food and the gratification of that relish comes good blood, and with It More flesh, which is close ly followed by a healing of the tunas. Then the cough loosens and abates, the creeping chills and clammy night-sweats no longer prostrate and annoy, and the patient gets well, provided he avoids taking cold. Now there are many consumptives who have not the means to go to Florida. The question may be asked, is there no hope fur such! Cer tainly there is. My advice to such is and ever has been, to stay in a warm room during the win ter, with a temperature of about seventy degrees, which should he kept regularly at that point, by means of a thermometer. Let such a patient take his exercise within the limits of the room by walking up and down as touch as his strength will permit, in order to keep up a healthy circula thin of the bloceL I have cured thousands by this system, and can do so again. Consumption is as easily cured as any other disease if it is tak en in time, and the proper kind of treatment is pursued. The fact stands undisputed on record that Schenck's Puhrionic Syrup, Mandrake Bills, and Seaweed Tonic have cured very many of what seemed to be hopeless ca.sesof consumption. Go where you will, you will be almost certain to find some poor consumptive who has been rescu ed from the very jaws of death by their use. • So far as the Mandrake Pills are concerned, everybody should keep a supply of them un hand. They act on the liver better than calomel. and leave none of its hurtful effects behind. In fact they are excellent in all cases where a purgative medicine Is required. H you have partaken. too freely of fruit and diarrhoea ensues, a dose of the Mandrakes will cure you. If you are subject tai sick headache, take a dose of the Mandrakes and they will relieve you In two hours. If you would obviate the effect of a change of water, or the tou free indulgence in fruit, take one of the Man drakes every night or every other night, and you may then drink water and eat watermelons, pears, apples, plums, peaches or corn ; without rtak betug made sick by Until. they will protect those who live in damp situations againS4 chills and fevers. Try them. They are perfectly • harmless. They can do you good only. I have abandoned my professional visits to Bos ton and New York, but continue to see patients at my ()Mee, No. 15 N. SL‘TH Street, Philadel phia, every Saturday, from 9 A. 31., to 3 P. M.— Those who wish a thorough examination with the Respirometer will be charged nye dollars. The Itespirometer declares the exact condition of the lump, and patients can readily learn whether they are curable or not. But I desire it distinctly understood that the value of my medicine de. pends entirely upon their being taken strictly ac cording to di rectieus. In conclusion. I will say - that when persons take my medicines and their systems are brought into a healthy condition thereby, they are not.so liable to take cold, yet no one with diseased lungs MU bear a sudden change of atmosphere without the liability of greater or less irritation of the bron chial tubes. Full directions in all languages accompany my medicines, so explicit and clear that any one can :me them without consulting me, and can be bought from any druJ SCHENCK. M. U. No. 15 N.
