In my cir cuit of obse7ation I have noticed so frequently, Where pigs were kept at a positive loss to the owner, who, with propei management and at no great ex pense, might - make a certain number ti source of considerable income. In the first place, thereare too many kept. I am satisfied thati so far as my knowl edge extends; two-thirds of the actual number kept . Would, with the same amount of food, make a larger weight of pork, of better quality, and at less expense. I know dairymen who winter a penof pigs nicely, feeding them well till, pro bably, May, and then turning them out to pasture, and supplying their place with what they call milk-pigs at. a cost of eight or ten dollars per pair, which will consume in proportion to their size double the quantity of food that those would that were through the win ter; while the latter with their sudden transaction from an abundant allowance of milk and grain to a scanty fare of short grass, almost cease growing, just managing to live along, but changing their whole appgaratice from plump, short-legged porkers to what Horace Greeley calls "long pikes;" and when fall comes requiring double the amount of corn to fatten them that it would have done had they been-kept through the summer as they had been wintered, to say nothing of the loss in weight, which added to the price paid for the spring pigs, fully eats up the price ob tained for the latter when marketed. I have tried the experiment and know whereof I speak. Some years back I adopted the rultto keep as many pigs over a-into/Las 'Mink myself likely to • have milk for through the summer, re .et fining thent in finch condition that they will fatten' with a small proportion of grain; and I find by doing thus I can make as much pork from two pigs as I formerly did from - three; while they are . quiet, seldom squealing from hunger, which is a satisfaction of itself worth Me . ntioning. I have no expensive structure for a house, only a plain building of rough boards with a floor a foot or eighteen inches from the ground, in which they eat and sleep and are sheltered from stormd. Adjoining, I have a pen walled iu the same as a barnyard, and there is where the profits come in. In this pen my gigs 'Make me on an average five loadsof manure each per year, worth at least two dollars per Toad. Into this pen I throw almost every rough substance • that an unringed pig can work up-- straw, cornfodder, weeds, leaves, sods, the coarse stalks 'from the cowyard, spoiled hay, sawdust, spent tan—any thing in fact that will act as an absorb ent; all of which comes out in the spring and fall in a well worked up condition; not entirely rotted to be sure; but then 1 do not believe in the theory that man ure to be most valuable should be rotten. When it is completely saturated with urine and excrement, and worked short enough fur easy handling, I believe it to be of the most value. My estimate is that the pork that the best of seeders make, taking one year with another, costs just what it would bring in market at slaughtering time; and I doubt if the figures can be produc ed that will prove it otherwise. .1 there fore estimate the manure as the only clear profit derived from keeping pigs; and where a farmer fails to increase that by every available means, he loses the onlfi.great advantage he has In keeping pigs at all.--Cor. Mellonville and Enterprise are located there. I should give a decided preference to Mel lonville. _lt Is two miles from river or lake, and It seems almost impossible to take cold there.— The tables in Florida might be. better, an tients c c i ompLaln at times but that Is a good s i g n, as It in /set a returnot appetites and when this the is l i mn ge m cam they e ge al nerally incre4e in flesh, and ust h. , Jacksonville, Hibernia, Green Clve, and' many other places lu various parts of Florida, can be safely recommended to consumptive, lie winter. My reasons for saying so are that patients are lees liable to take cold there than here, there Is a lees even temperature, and It is not usetsssary• to say that where a consumptive person exposes himself to frequent ecdds he is certain to die shortly. Therefore my advice is, go well down into Me State out of the reach of prevailing east winds and foga. Jacksonvine, or almost any oth er of the localities I have named, will benefit those who are troubled with a torpid liver, a dis. ordered stomach deranged bowels, sore throat or conk but for those whose lungs are diseased a more southern point is earnestly recommended. For fifteen years prior to lip) I was profession. ally in New York, Baden, Baltimore and Phila delphia every week, where I saw and examined on an average live hundred patients a week. A practice so extensive, embracing every possible phase of lung disease, has enabled me to under etand the disease fully, and hence, my caution , regard to taking told. A person may take v quantities of "Schenck's Pulmonic Syrup, Sea. weed Tonle and Mandrake Pills," and yet die if he does not avoid taking cold. In Florida. nearlyeverybody is using Schenck's Mandrake Pills, for the climate is more likely to produce bilious habits than more northern lati tude& It is a well esudembed feet that natives of Florida rarely die of consumption, especially three of the southern part. On the her hand, in New England, one-tkind, at leaat. of the inpu. Mon die of this terrible di se In the Middle States It does not prevail so largely, still there are many thousands of eases thorn What a vast pesuentage of ilia would be saved it consump ere as easily alarmed In regard to taking fresh cold as they are about scarlet fever, email pox, de. But they are not. They take what they term a little cold, which they are credulous enough to believe will wear off In a few days.— They pay no attention to it, and hence It lays the foundation for another and another still, until the Lungs ate diseased beyond all hope for cure. My advice to persons whose lungs are affected even slig htly p htly is, to lay a stock of Schenck's Put- monk &hawk's Seaweed Tonic and Schenck's Mandrake Pills and go to Florida. I recommend these particular medicines because I am thoroughly acquainted with their action. I know that where they are used In strict accord ance with my directions they will do the work , that Is required. This accomplished, nature will ,do the rest. The physician who prescribes for • cold, cough or night-sweats, and then advises the . Want to walk or ride out every day, wi ll be sure to have a corpse on his hands before long. My plan is to give my three medicines, In ac corftnee with the printed directions, este in some cases where a freer use of tie e Plll3 is necessary. My object la to give tone to • the stomach—to get up a good apir e t ns e. It is al. ways a good sign whed a patient to grow hungry. I have hopes of such. Wi tha rend' for food and the gratincation of that relish comes good blood, and with It more flesh, which is close cough loosens ly followed by a healing of the lungs. Then the and Mates, the creeping chins and clammy night-sweats no longer prostrate and annoy, and the patient gets well, provided he •,• avoids taking cold. Now there are many consumptives who have not the means. to go to Florida. The question may be asked,is there no hope for such! Cer tainly there ks. -- Dfy advise to such Is, and ever has been, to stay in a warm room during the win ter with a temperature of about seventy degrees, which should be kept regularly at that point, by means of a thermometer. Let such a patient take his exercise within the limits of the room by walking up and down as much as his strength will permit, in order to keep up a healthy circula tion of the blood. I have cured thousands by this system, and can do so again. Consumption is as easily cured as any other disease If it is tak en In time, and the proper kind of treatment Is pursued. The fact stands undisputed on record that Schenck's Pulmonic Syrup, Mandrake Pills, and Seaweed Tonic have cured very many of what seemed to be hopeless cases of consumption. Go where you will, you will be almost certain to find some poor consumptive who has been rescu ed from the veryi . aws of death by their use. So far AS the mandrake Pills are concerned, everybody should keep a supply of them on hand. They act on the liver better than calomel, and leave none of Its hurtful effects behind.. In fact they are excellent in all cases where a pergative medicine is required. If you have partaken too freely troll and dlarrhrea ensues, a dose of the Mandrakes will cure you. If you are subject to sick headache, take a dose of the Mandrakes and they will relieve you In two hours. If you would obviate the effect of a change of water, or the too free indulgence in fruit, take one of Me Man drakes every night or every other night, and you may then drink water and eat watermelol3s, . =apples, Morns, peaches or corn, witbout kea Mime laatisidhat braes& Tha sill pazdossoilris isfsplliela thlitiP situations against chills and fevers.
