Miss .LOGAN'S LECTITRE.—OIive Logan
had aftill house on Friday night last, to
listen to her "Bright' Side," many being
doubtless drawn to the Hall out of curiosi
ty. Barring the mannerism incident to

for theme, the lecture made a favorable
impression. Miss Logan has a light,
sprigh4y. style of thought and expression,
with considerable dramatic power, and
gives fair promise as a platform talker.
In the more serious, argumentative por
tions of her lecture, she appears to best
advantage, although some of her anecdotal
illustrationsibrooght the tioluse.

CHOIRIL—An exchange thus describes
the "fashionable choir," which may be
found at the present day in many Chris
tian Churches. We do not know that We
have any Choirs in this region to fill the
picture, but the publication will do no
harm:
"The choir loft ten feet behind and ten
feet above the wors hippers ; then the four
teen sorts of tune books; then the balus
trade to hide the praisers; then the praisers
themselves, who come tripping to their
places with the exuberant satisfaction and
demonstrative delight; then their saluta
tions and greetings, which in 'any other
part of the church would be considered
intolerably irreverent (therefor the choir
loft is not recognized as a part of the
church, or the inhabitants a part of the
whorahippers); then the titter, a disease
which is incurable in choirs as it is insep
arable from these; then solemn singing
with a background of merry smiles, hila
rious nudging and characteristic (not to
say choristenstio winks; and then a grand
reconnoitring of tune books, accompanied
by appropriate whispers, during the pray
er or reading of the Holy Bible; then a
literary entertainment, or an exchange of
penciled notes on all the great questions
that interest the human mind except re
ligion; then the transformation of the.
choir loft into a sleeping car, of which the
chorister is the conductor, who wakes up
passengers when it is time to go to prais
ing again,"
