to say a word in regard , to the use of fer

absorbing importance that we cannot for
bear saying something in rigard to it.
There are those. we know, who have
little or no faith in thic, teachings or ad

They a 'not willing to admit that men

and that, therefore, their suggestions are
witbout li value. Fortunately the number of
this class of skeptical ones is daily lessen
ing, and will continue to grow smaller as
intelligence spreads its influence through
. out the laud. There is nothing more easy
of practical demonstration than„that good
crops 'cannot be groWn upon . the ante
land snecessively for a number of years,
f without a liberal use of fertilizers. Our en

attempted so repentocily, - and failed, the

. Out advice to farmer. is—Manure liber
ally. Do not be afraid of the expense.
Judicious. liberal inatfitring is like judi
cious, liberal advertising. - It requires
,some nerve on the part of the farmer at
first, to bring his courage up to the stick
ing point, but that reached, he rarely ever
fails to follow it up. ' If he has not enough
farm yard manure, then Kt him not hesi
tate in regard to procuring a supply of
someone or more of the many well estab
lished concentrated fertilizers which are
to be found in the market. This advice.
may in tliC estimation of some persons,
smell a little of shop, but if practically
applied, it will prove sound and good, and
for this reason we tender it.
HAD TO BE PAID FOR.—He of whom we

of Michigan. In addition to farming he
made a little (some said much) money by
selling beef. But according to his own
statement; he always lost money by it.
While serving his customers with tender
steaks he would sfx - t.a k feelingly of how
Much he lost on that "critter."
"Well, titicle,-,lolmni," said a customer,

A SMART girl in Minnesota popped the

to ask lento have him, and had failed
every time.
THE fellow. who was told that the best

"If that is the only remedy which can be
proposed, I say let 'er palpitate."

say what it may, this is the only true cure fur coil

shadow of a doubt, and thousands are tu-ihie
and well who a few years since were red:u.lcd a,
hopeless cases, but who were induced to tr)
Schenck's remedies, and were rt- , tot ...I to peri II a
nent health by their use.
One of the first steps the physician should Lake
with a comatinptive patient I; to invigorate the
system. Now how Is this to be mine? Certainly
not by giving medicines t hat exhaust and enervate
—medicines that impair instead of miprove the
functions of the digestive organs. Dr. Schenck's
medicines cleanse the stomach :std bowels of all
sulxdances which are caleuhtt,sd to irritate or
weaken them. They create an appetite—prom o te;
healthful thgestion—tnake glaal blood. and. as a
consequence. they invigorate and strengthen the
entire system, and more espeeiall7 those parts
which are diseased. It this cannot lio thine, then
the case must be regarded as a hopeless one.
If the physician finds it impossible to make a
PA.IIENT PEEL, HUNGRY, If the dis”ased per,on
Cannot partake of good nourishing food and pr o .
perly ingest it. it is Impossible that lie can gain
tieSll WM strength; and it is equally litmus-able
to bring a patient to ties condition so long as the
liver is burdened with diseased bile, and the
stomach laden with unhealt.hy slime.
Ahnost the first request made to the physician
by acoatutuptive patient is that he will prescr i be
medicines that will remove or shiny the c o u g h,
night sweats and chills, which are the Sale at
tendants on consumption. But this should not be
done, as the cough is only are-effort of nature to
relieve itself, and the night sweatsand chills are
caused by the diseased lungs. The remedies or
dinarily prescribed do more harm than good.—
They Impair the functions of the stomach. linissle
healthy digestion, and aggravate rather 11130 cure
the disease.
There Is. afrer all, nothing like facis with which
to substantiate a position, apd it is upon facts that
ftr. Schenck relies. Nearlyr all who lave taken
his medicines in accordance with his directions
have not only been cured Of consumption, but,
from the fact that these medicines act with won
derful power upon the digestive organs, patients
thus cured speedily gain flesh. Cleansing the
system of all impurities, they lay the foundation
fur a solid. substantial structure. Restoring these
organs to health, they create an appetite. The
food is properly assimilated ; the quantity of blood
is nut only Increased, hut ha made rich and strong
and In the face of such a condition of the :system
all disease must be banished.
