LECTURE.—We are informed that S.
M. Hewlett, who pleased the people so

has been secured to deliver his famous

evening from now until next June all who
would enjoy his unsurpassed genius would

STOLEN.—In the early part of the sum
mer a $lO gold piece and some silver half
dollars were stolen from the residence of
Mr. John Hartman, of Franklin township.
Mr. H. has been quietly pursuing his in
quiries in regard to the larceny, but has
been unable definitely to trace the stolen

School for Girls will be opened in this
place on the 3rd of October, under the
management of Prof. H. Louis Baugher:
A full corps of competent teachers has
been secured, the purpose being to spare
no efforts to make it a FIRST-CLASS insti
tution. The course of study will com
prise all the English branches usually
pursued in Seminaries for young ladies,
besides Ancient and Modern Languages,
Music, Drawing, Painting, Needle and
Wax work. Boarding and Day Pupils

in Christ will hold a Woods Meeting in

Ficarrsuw.—George Flack, an estima
ble citizen of Chambersburg, several weeks
ago tread on a small fragment of bone
which penetrated his shoe, inflicting a
slight wound in his foot. It seemed to
heal; but on Friday last, soreness of the
foot set in, terminating in lock-jaw, his
life being despaired of.—On Wednesday
night of Jost week a black mare eleven
years old, was stolen from the meadow of
Joseph S. Crider, in St. Thomas township.
