Arircrrusn BARN BrENT.—The Littles
town Press says that during the thunder
shower, Wednesday evening of. last week,
the stable of Mr. Isaac Sheely, of Mount
pleasant township, this county, was struck
by lightning and totally destroyed, to
gether with a carriage, sleigh, t&c., which
were in the stable at the time. •
The house of Mr. James Welsh, also
residing in the same vicinity, was struck,
and Mrs. Welsh severely, though not
dangerously, injured.
AlloTnzu.—On Monday night, between
10 and'll o'clock, a bright light was seen
in the southern part of the county, in
dicating another fire. We have since
learned that it was slog Barn about about
two wiles west of Littlestown, on the pro
perty formerly owned by Mr. Jacob Sheely.
Mr. Edward Diehl, of New Oxford, pur
chased the property at Sheriff's sale in
June. Mr. - John Rodkeywas the tenant
last year and loses his entire grain crop,
which was unthreahed. Mr. John Trostle
had taken his threshing machine to the
premises the same evening, but it being
late when he got there 'the machine was
not put in the barn and was thus saved.—
Mr. Ludwig, the present tenant, loses his
crop of hay, besides a spring wagon, gears
and other articles. The impression is that
the fire was the result of incendiarism.—
The sheep had been pit in the barn during
the evening, but they with the cattle were
driven out before the barn was fired.

SUNDAY SCHOOL ric-Nrc.- . —A 'pleasant
Pic-Nic came off on Thursday of last week,
in Mr. M. , Leeer's grove, about li miles
north-east of York Springs, under the
auspices of the York Springs M. E. San

and a procession was formed at the M. E.
Church, - and proceeded to the grove, where
the Rev. J. B. Anthony, of the Lutheran
Church, delivered an interesting address.
Dinner was then served to the scholars
and visitors, numbering over 25....5. At 3
clock, the schools were reAssembled and a
suitable address delivered by the Rev. T.
F. McClure, of the M. E. -. Church. The
day was pleasantly spent in innocent re
creation and social intercourse, refresh..

. 4 o'clock,
the number on the ground at this time
amounting to about 350. In the evening
the schools returned to town, everything
having passed off satisfactorily. '
VilrThe storm on Wednesday of last
week seems to have broken up the hot
spell.. The weather for some days has
been comparatively cool and pleasant.
We are indebted to Mr. Powers for
the usual weekly record of his thermome

of pleasant weather, we are -.getting back
into a warm spell. Some how the ther

. The vegetative powers of life are strong, but in a
few orrs how often the pallid hue, the lack-lustre
eye and emaciated form, and the impossibility of
appliCation to mental effort, glow its baneful in
fluence. It soon becomes evident to the observer
that some depressing Influence Ls checking the
development of the body. Consumption IS talked
of, and perhaps the youth is removed from school
and sent into the country. This is one of the
worst movements, Removed from ordinary di
versions of the ever-changing scene of the city,
the powers of the body, too much enfeebltid to
give zest to healthful and rumikercise, thogghts
are turned Inwards upon themselves.
If the patient be a female, the approach of the
menses Ls looked for with anxiety, as the first
symptom In whlcti.Nature Is to show her saving
power in dlffusinv the circuLation and visiting the
cheek with the bloom of health. Alas l increase
of appetite has grown by what It fed on; the en
ergies of the system are prostrated, and the whole
economy is deranged. The beautiful and wond
erful period In which body and ndnd undergo so
fascinating a change from child to woman. is
looked for in vain: the parent's heart bleeds In
anxiety, and fancies the grave but waiting fur its
victim.

Transition from one question to another.
These symptoms, it allowed to go on—which
this Medicine Invariably removes—soon follow
Loss of Power, Fatuity, and Epileptic Fits, !none
of which the patient may expire.
During the Superintendence of Dr. Wilson at
the Bloontingdale Asylum, this sad result occur
red to two patients; reason had for a time left
them, and both died of epilepsy. They were of
both sexes, and about twenty years of age.
Who can say that these excesses are not fre
quently followed by those direful diseases Insanity
and Consumption? The records of the Insane
Asylums, and the melancholy deaths by ConsuMP
tion, bear ample witness to the truth of these as
sertions. In Lunatic Asylums the most melan

actually sudden and quite dOstitute—tielther
Mirth or Grief ever visits it. Should a sound of
