WATERER° HOESES.—Horses should be watered from a brook, pond or river, and not from wells or springs, as the well water is harder and colder, while the, running stream is soft and rather rum. The preference of horses is for soft, even though it be muddy water, to that which is hard. Horses should be allowed in summer time at least four waterings a day; and a half bucketful at a time and in winter a pailful may be al lowed morning and evening, which is sufficient to assuage their thirst without causing them to bloat or puff up. Care should Ss taken that the horse is -not put to work immediately after drinking a full bucket of water, especially if re quired to go fast, because digestion and severe exertion can Never go on togeth er, and moreover purging is apt to en sue. In some cases broken wind or heaves is thus produced. Avoid giving warm or tepid water to horse; that are often driven from home, because cold or well water will then perhaps be given them, which will be liable to produce a congestive chill, followed by lung fever, and in some cases colic. When horses are thus carefully watered, it one or more of them should refuse their accus tomed itood, something is wrong and they should not be taken out of the sta ble to work or driven further that day; but an examination should be made as to the cause with ciview to its remedy, —.M Ciure's New Stable Guide. MEDICAL PROPERTIES OF EGOS.— The white of an egg has proved of late the mast efficacious remedy for burns. Seven or eight successive applications of this substance soothes pain, and ef fectually excludes the burn from the air, This simple remedy seems prefera ble to collodion, _or even cotton. Ex traordinary stories are told of the heal big properties of - a new oil which is easily made from the yolk of hen's eggs. The eggs arefirst boiled hard, and the yolks are then removed, crushed and placed over a Eire, where the are careful ly stirred until the whole substance is just on the point of catching fire, when the oil seperates and may be poured off. One yolk will yield nearly two teaspoons ful of oiL It is in general use - among colonists of South Russia as a means of curing cuts, bruises and scratches. IMPRESSION AT FIRST SWlM—This subject, at the supper table, was getting "talked over,"when tle lady who presid ed over the cup of tea said she "always formed an idea of a terson at first sight; and that idea she found was generally a correct one," "Mamma:" said her youngest son, in a shrill voice, that attracted the attention of all present. "Well, my dear," said the fond mother owhat do you want ?" •'I want to know," said young America "what you thought when you first saw me ?" There was no answer to this query; but we learn a general titter prevailed, and that "Charlie" was taken into the kitchen Immediately by the servant. "Fermat," said a roguish boy, "I hope _ you won't buy any more gunpowder tea for mother." "Why not ?" "Because every time she drinks it she blows ns up.". "Go to bed jouunediately; you've stayed up long enough." A BOY eight years old, in one of our public schools, having been told that reptile fis an animal that creeps," on being asked to name one on an examina tion day, promptly and triumphantly r - plied, "a baby." gyviciA,L DnizeToa Y 00L - NR'r 01710ER8.
