Chandler has carefully examined the composition of a large num ber of "hair restoratives" or washes, and .of cosmetics, freely sold and largely used, and has made an elaborate report, In which he shows that, "with very few exceptions, the hair tonics, washes and restoratives contain lead in considerable quantities; that they owe their action to this metal, and that they are highly dangerotis to the health of the person using them;" and that, "the enamels are composed of either carbonate of lime, oxide of zinc, or car-, bonate of lead, suspended in water. The Ark two classes of enamels are vampire- Lively as harmless as any other white dirt when plastered over the skin to close the pores, and prevent its healthy. .action. On the other hand, the enamels composed of carbon'ata of lead are highly dangerous, and their use is very certain to produce dis astrous results to those who patronize them." These facts will be found sugges tive to physicians, who may find it useful to inquire how many of the obstinate and obscure causes of disease, in which their best effortaseem to be useless and in which IDE is made a burden, are really the conse quences of persistent lead poisoning, , in dicted on their patients by themselves. They ought to be: - ataggestlye to persons who, in their ambition for a beautiful com plexion, do not hesitate to plaster deadly pdisons on their skins ; but without ven turing on such dangerous ground as this, - it is at least fair to suggest to amorous youths that, if they do not wish to destroy their own health they had better avoid all - r contact with cheeks and hair which are "improved" from patine, and thig, a -kiss from "enameled" beauty may be almost as deadly as the bite of a venomous-serpent. Some fine specimens of copper ore have been taken from the land. Some of them were sent to Phifacielphia in March, and on examination were found to contaip eighty per cent, of copper. The Village Record says : "Twenty-eight years ago, we are reliably informed, a party from the Rest Were prospecting there for o're, and at the depth of forty feet reached a vein several feet in thickness. It appeara the party failed to comply with an article between themselvee and Mr. Watson. and the latter, being-a peculiar individual, re fused to lease or sell the land during his lifetime.
