SATZ THE Sans.—The Massachusetts
Ploughman, in an article on "soap suds"
says, that the value of this article as a stim
ulant of vegetable life, cannot be too highly
appreciated. It contains, it says, the all
meat of plants in a state of ready solution,
and whew applied, acts not only with im
mediate ru s ifisibvious effect, but with a sus.
tamed energy which pertains to few even
of the most concentrated manures. When
it is not convenient to apply it in irrigation,
the most economical method, perhaps, of
using it—the •article_ goes on t• say—it
should be absorbed by some materials which
may used as an ingredient in the compost
heap. Bode, muck and other similar arti
cles should be deposited where the suds
from the sink and laundry may find its way
to them and be absorbed for the benefit of
crops. In this way several loads of ma
nure, very suitable for the =ppm and
sustenance of any crop, may be made at
comparatively small expense. The highly
putrescent character of this fermentable
liquid qualities It admirably for the 'trigs
Lion of compost heaps of whatever material
composed. Being a potent fertiliser, It must
of necessity impart additional richness to
almost any matenal to whiob It may be
added. The article concludes with an ap
peal to all farmers and gardeners to "try,

pondent of the Prairie Farmer writes u
follows :
• "One of the best farmers that I know
saves one third of his corn by soaking-it
before he feeds it to his horse& His plan
is this : He places two hogsheads in his
bane oellai, secure from frost, fills 'them
with ears of corn, and pours in water until
they are ecrrered. When well soaked he
feeds out of one to his horses, and by the
time this is exhausted the corn In the other
hogshead is well soaked. The cobs become
so soft that the horses eat them with as
good a relish as they do the corn, and they
only require about two thirds as much corn
as when fed without soaking.
"There is no doubt that the cob eaten
with the corn renders the diet more whole -
some. A certain amount of coarse feed is
necessary to the health of animals."

Azores, to be laid from New York to the
Azores, thence to England, near Brighton,
and thence by two lateral lines to Prance,
near Havre, and Holland, near the Hague.
