A CCIDEN T.—On last Sunday, whilst a
little son of Mr. Thaddeus Blocher, of
this Borough, was amusing himself on a
pile of lumber, one of the planks sudden
ly slipped from its place, catching the lit
tle fellow's left leg under it, and breaking
it between the knee and ankle. The frac
ture was adjusted by Dr. R. S. Seim.
ANOTHER.—On Monday last, a little
daughter of 'Mr. Andrew Jones, also of
this Borough, in the absence of her moth
er, by some means got hold of a small
pen-knife, with which she cut her selfself
qude severely in the lip, the blade cif the
knife passing entirely through the lip,
causing it to bleed profusely.
WEST PA. SYNOD.—This body closed
its sessions at a late hour on Monday night,
and adjourned to meet in Mechanicsburg
next September. The business transacted
was the usual matters claiming the attention
of district Synods, and related mainly to the
work of Home and Foreign Missions, Be
neficiary Education, vacant Charges, Etc.
A large proportion of Saturday's t and Mon
day's sessions was occupied in considering
some difficulties in the Mechanicsburg
charge, brought before Synod by the Ctun
lierland Valley Conference. A resolution
was finally adopted by a nearly unanimous
vote, endorsing the action of the Confer
ennce.
The various pulpits in town were supplied
on Sabbath morning and evening by Minis
ters connected with the Synod, and public
services were held every evening in St.
James Church. On Thursday and Friday
evenings, the services had special reference
to home Missions dt Education, a liberal
sum being realized for each cause by con
tributions for life memberships of the So
cieties—slos for Missions, and $415 for
Education. On Saturday afternoon the Syn
od in a body 'visited Steven's Hall, Penn
sylvania College, and the Theological
Seminary. At the College the members of
Synod were formally welcomed by Presi
dent Valentine in a neat speech, which was
replied to by Rev. Mr. 'ALLY, President of
the Synod.
FOR BALI
The Synod adopted measures to put the
the work of Home MVICOIs, Foreign Mis
sions, Clk Extension, &c., hitherto con
ducted as in ependent operations, into aux
iliary relations with the General Synod.
The standing resolution forbidding the
electiou of the same persons as delegates to
the General Synod twice in succession, was
rescinded.
The sessions of the Synod were pleasant
and harmonious, and before adjourning re
solutions were adopted acknowledging the
hospitality of the citizens of the town.—
The following resolutions were unaminous
ly adopted :
Whereas, The vice of Intemperance is
rapidly and alarmingly on the increase in
our land, thereby greatly augmenting do
mestic sorrow, corrupting and destroying
national life,And retarding the success and
triumph of ,the Gospel: Therefore be it
Resolved,
Ist. That we, as a Synod, hereby e.xpress
our deep regret that Intemperance thus pre
vails throughout our land.
2d. That we most earnestly urge and ex
pect all the members of our respective
Churches, save for medicinal and mechani
calca purposes, totally to abstain from the use
a intoxicating drinks, and that we will
regard the, not ; or sale of intoxicating li
quors, save for medicinal and mechanics 4
purposes, as an offense demanding the en
forcement of Church discipline.
Std. That we, as Ministers, will at least
once and As much otusaar as we may think
proper, during the coming Synodical year,
preach upon the subject of Temperince,
(or Intemperance,) and by onr examplesurd
influence do all in onr power to further the
interarts of the Temperance cause.

In providing a potent remedy, Dr. Stce
roes Old Standird Tccrile Herb Ill_Mtra
have attained unparalleled celebrity; hav
ing ' been befiare the public for the last
thirty years.
Wherever they have entered the sick or
complaining honsehold, their effects have
even exoee&a or.peetatiOn, and Iso:hr
sur
passed all we have ever claimed for them
by circular, card, or otherwise, that the
public confidence in the medical qualities
of the Bitters is unbounded. We do not
fear the competition of the empirical
throng who attempt to palm off remedies
upon the people, which are not scientifl ,
cally compounded, and are destitute of
available qualities. Their empiriclim will
be discovered in the end, and the ineffi
ciency of their preparations found out. We
•would rather be envied for merited sac
.oBBB than despised for failure, however
ungenerous itintly be Ihr man either to
envy or deeptse."Against another and a
worse class of individuals, we are forced
to take actiOn. We allude to those who
take advantageof our popularity, and at
tempt-to gala public favor and confidence
by counterfeiting the Old Standard Bit
ters, barely imitating the label, or making
other approaches to its preparation calcula
ted to deceive, and as a matter of course,
in so far as they succeed, to bring our ex: ,
cellent Tonic into disrepute. The public
are hereby warned against all such im
itations. In order to further protect
ourselves, and save the afflicted from im
position, we have concluded to change our
Label so as ever hereafter to sustain our
indentity, and keep the reputation of the
Old Standard intact. We incur great ex
pense by so doing, but the end warrants
the means. The new label along with the
caption, directions and neat ornaments
tion, will present an excellent steel portrait
of C. H.- Krydet, the senior member of
the firm. This will be the badge of its
genuineness, as well as a guarantee of the
quality of the Bitters. The label will be
duly copyrighted, and thus placed beyond
the reach of counterfeiters. By no fault
of ours shall the public confidence ever
be abused or the reputation of the "Old
Standard" be allowed to suffer. None
genuine unless signed.

IMPROVED MORNING GLORY.—
The famous Morning Glory Stove, so pop
ularis a parlor and office stove, has some
times been objected to for use in cham
hers and by families needing but one Are,
because not adapted to beat water, &c.—
This difficulty has been overcome, and
last Monthly we saw one of the improved
Morning Glories in operation at the Ware
room of Col. C. H. Bunittnn, on Carlisle
street, which seems not only to obviate
objections but to meet every desired want.
It is nothing more or less than the ordi
nary Morning Glory, with an Oven about
15 inches in diameter attached, and inge
niously arranged dampers by which the
heat can be thrown around the oven at
pleasure, and making it as hot as the
ovens of the - best cooking stoves. Water
can be boiled, pies baked; and even meat
roasted as readily as in a cooking stove.
This contrivance, while preserving &lithe
qualities of the Morning Glory as a beat
er, adapts it for the sick chamber, or use
in small families requiring but little
cooking• tf
