INCENDIARLSM.—A grain shed, be longing to Mr. J. Hildebrech, on the road leading from Littlestown to Taneytown, about three miles from the latter place, was totally destibyed by, fire , on last Thursday night, with all its contents. We learn that Mr. H. had 'nearly his entire crop of grain in the abed at the time, and also a number of tons of bay. Suspicion at once rested upon a notorious character named John Black, who had previously made threats that he would burn - Mr. H's. property, and who was seen in that locali ity on the evening of the fire. He was promptly arrested and taken to jail at WsatMinister to await a trial, which will no doubt place him beyond the pbwer of doing mischief for some time to come.-4 Flaw. Isaac Robinson, which took place on the 29th ult., after a lingering'tilness. Judge Robinson was born in Carroll's Tract on the 18th of March, 1801, and has always resided in .Adams county. He was a high toned gentleman, courteous in manner, and while tenacious of his opinions once found, was careful in reaching convitions of duty. Although modest and unobtru sive, he was at various times honored with official position—having filled the offices of Cininty Surveyor, Justice of the Peace, Member of the Legislature, and Associate Judge. In the latter position, which be WAS compelled to resign because of im paired health, he enjoyed the esteem of the Bar, by reason of the uniform courtesy and uprightness, which characterized his administration of the duties, and the res pectful, generous confidence which he at all times manifested in his intercourse with them On the announcement of his death, allthough not in official connec tion with the Court, a meeting of the members of the Bar and officers of the Court was held, at which appropriate res olutions were adopted, and which will be found in another column. The funeral, which was largely attended, took place on. Fridey afternoon, his remains being in terred In Ever-Green Cemetery. REPUBLICAN COMMITTEE.—T h e Republican County Committee met at the Eagle Hotel on Saturday last. Owing to the absence of Hon. Eatwat - A McPherson, Capt. E. McGinley was appointed Chairman pro tem. After an interchange of opin ions, it was unanimously resolved that the Republican County Convention meet in Get tysburg, 'on the fourth Monday In August, the 238. The call will be found in to-day's paper. We hope our Republican friends in the townships will not neglect the Delegate elections, to be held cot the Saturday previ ous. The campaign this fall will be an im portant one, involving the election of a Governor and Supreme Judge, besides the usual County officers. Send- good discreet men as delegates to the Convention, charg ed with the duty of nominating a ticket that shall command the confidencb and cor dial support of every Republican in the county. The administration of the county offices needs reforming badly, and the nomination of good men may largely ten d to secure this desirable end. DEATH OF JUDGE ROBINSON At a meeting of the Judges, members of the tar, and Officers of the Court, on the 30th day of July, 1869, called on the occasion of the death 6f Hon. Isaac Rob inson, on motion, Hon. R. O. Harper was called to the chair, and Hon. S. R. Russell appointed Secretary. Hon. Moses McClean stated the object or the meeting, and made roma pertinent re- Marks in &Unstop to his long and intimate acquaintance, from boyhood, with the late Judge Robinson, and in expression of his many virtues and worth. D. McCOnaughy, Esq., spoke in terms of hearty commendation of him, as a gen tle of the old school, as a useful and ex emplary magistrate and legislator, and as an upright ansl impartial Judge. On motion, Wm. McClean, D. M cCon. anghy, and W. A. Duncan, Esqs., were appointed a Committee to drift resolu tions, expressive of the sense °l i the meet ing, and reported the following: WHEREAS, in the providence of God. Ron. Isaac Robinson, one of the Associate Judges of the several Courts of Adams County, became afflicted with serious and painful disease, making it necessary for him to resign his commis-ion, and which, after a protracted period of suffering, has resulted in his death : Resolved, that we deeply sympathized with Judge Robinson. iu hisLaffiction, re gretted the necessity of his resignation, and bear unanimous and earnest testi mony to his pure and unspotted life, to his honor as a high:mined gentleman, to the worth of his example in the various social relations he sustained, to the value of his services as a useful citizen, Legis lator and Magistrate, to his uprightness, impartiality and integrity as a Judge, and the ability and fidelity with which he dis c; _ :barged the duties of the several public positions to which he was called by his fellow citizens. Resolved, that we, in a body, attend his Inners.' that these proceedings be entered upon the records of the Courts, published in the newspapers of the County, and a copy thereof presented to his family, with our sincere sympathy and condolence. R. G. M cCreary, Elia., in seconding the motion tor the adoption of the resolutions, expressed his entire concurrence in the trib. ute which they offered. They were unan imously adopted and the meeting adjourn ed.. R.G. HARPER, C7i'n. S. R. RUSSELL, Sec's/. . A CONVENIENCE.—We understand that arrangements have been made to es tablish a Baggage Depot in this place which will be under the charge of respon sible parties. Passengers arriving in the trains can leave their checks at the Ticket offioe, and their baggage will be delivered wherever ordered. Persons Wending to leave in the cars can have their baggage called for at their residences and deliver it at the depot, • IMPROVED MORNING GLORY.— The famous Morning Glory Stove, so pop nlar as a parlor Red once stove, has some times been objected to for use in cham bers and by families needing but one fire, because not adapted to heat water, dtc.— This difficulty has been overcome, and last Monday we saw one of the improved Morning Glories in operation at the.Ware room of Col. C.a. Busman, on Carlisle street, which seems not only to obviate o'hjeottatuybut to meet every desired want. It is nothing more'Or less than the ordi nary Morning Glory, with an Oven about 15 inches in diameter attached, and inge niously arranged dampers by which the heat can be thrown around the oven at jpeasure, and making it as hot as the ovens of the beat cooking ottovee. Water can be boiled, pies baked, and even meat routed as readily as in a cooking stove., This contrivance, while preserving an the qualities of tkie Morning Glory as a heat ar,adapts it for the sick chamber, or use in Ismail Amines requiring but little mold . “idrAgoakyoutbetwoorimer of Dr. Sage's Ostarah-tuedy would offer Vac reward” ibr.a CaSof.QUarrh which he cannot cure if hie Reamly was a humbug? Swope: bit recently the tight for Associate Judge and County Treas urer has waxed warm and monopolized spe cial attention. For the former the contest. I ants are Messrs. Krise, McCurdy and Zieg ler. The friends of Henry A. Picking, Esq., early in the canvass manifested a dis position to press his candidacy; but being strongly suspected of a leaning towards Temperance—which, by the way, don't be long to the Democratic creed—Mr. P., pro bably seeing breakers ahead, promptly and pereMptorily Withdrew his ' name. Mr. Brise has been working hard, but without any show--the contest being narrowed down to McCurdy and Ziegler, the chances in fa vor of the hitter, who is working like a bea ver, persistently and boldly. The fight for Treasurer is between Martin and Brinker hoff, the other candidates for that office, al though clever men, being evidently not in the ring. The contest, however, is compli cated by rumored combinations between candidates for different offices, 'on the prin ciple of "you support me and I'll support you." • We don't know that the Convention will ' care to consult us either in the nomination Of candidates or the fixing up a platform. Doubtless some of the knowing ones have resolutions already blocked out. If not, we tender the following free of charge : I—Resolved, That Thomas Jefferson made a mistake when he declared that "all Imen are created free and equal," and "en ' dowled by their Creator witkeertain inalien able rights." He forgot that this is a "white man's" government, and that "nig gers have no rights.. which white men are bound to respect." o —Resolved, That .the Declaration of Independence being - simply a "string of glittering generalities," of doubtful . expedi ency, its doctrines are not binding on the Democratic party of the present day. 3—Resolved, That Rebellion is nol crime—that Lincoln was ape," Jeff. Davis" a gentleman—Grant a "butcher," Gen. Lee a military genius—and that Lin coln's "hirelings" deserve the lasting op probrium of all true Democrats for thwarting our Southern brethern in their patriotic ef forts to establish a Confederacy, with "Slav ery as its corner stone," on the ruins of the present Federal Union. 4—That the "lost cause" is dear to our hearts, and upon reaching political power we will evince our gratitude to the brave men who bled and died fin. it, by pension ing their widows and children, and giving.l the most lucrative offices to their surviving comrades. s—Resolved, That money—not brains— should be a passport to public confidence, "and we hail the nomination of Asa Packer for Governor, with 'profound Joy—assured that he will freely shell out the "ding bats." But we insist, as a condition of our cordial support, that the Democracy of Adams county be permitted to share in the spoils, and that Alderman McMullen and the Philadelphia Democrats shall not mono polize them. 6—That free-voting, like ftee whiskey, is a cardinal principle of Democracy—th%t the Democrats of Philadelphia ought to have the right to vote as often as they please —and that the Registry Law, which pro poses to limit them to one ballot, is unjust and unconstitutional. 7.—The Temperance and Prohibition are the offspring of a morbid fanaticism.— They don't belong to the Democratic creed, and we hereby notify the Judges of the Court of Quarter Sessions, (Judge Fisher especially,) that we expect them in future to- grant all applications for Tavern License —especially when the applicant comes en dorsed as a sound Democrat. B.—Resolved, That the rigid economy displayed by Governor Geary in the State, and by Gen. Grant in the National, Ad ministrations is all wrong. The State and National Debts are being liquidated too rapidly, and the contrast between Demo cratic and Republican rule is thereby made too patent. IVe demand a restoration to office or the tried and trusty Democrats, whom long experience in office made adepts at stealing and plundering, and whose re storation will not only give us plenty of “spoils" in political campaigns, but pre vent a too speedy payment of the State and National Debt. B.—Resolved, That the "nigger" has been the stock In trade of the Democratic party for more than a third of a century ; that the proposition of Gen. NEW OXIOED, PENNA., July 31 180.; EDITORS OF STASI. tt SENTINEL:-Mr. James Hersh, of this 'village, raised this season 283 pounds of potatoes, of the Early Rose variety, the product of 3 pounds planted on 364 square feet of ground. The potatoes are large and fine, many of them weighing 15 ounces each. Another item of product raised in our town.—A leaf cut from a stalk of cabbage growing in the graden of our townsman, Mr. Wm. King, measured 73 inches in cir cumference, being a new variety, the first introduced here, called the "Stone Mason Marblehead." These items are given for the benefit of our agricultural friends, who are invited to beat us if they can. If so, they may hear from us again. AGRICULTURE.
