THE VELOCIPEDE. —The Velocipede School in Agricul , ural Hall has excited a good deal of interest by reason of the 'nov elty. A good deal of fun luta been occas ioned from day to day by the mishaps of awkward expetiments, but a number of our young men have made creditable prog revs and bid lair to become good yelocipe diets. On Saturday evening, there will be a contest for a silver_cup to be given to the .fastest rider. SPARE THE BIRDS.—Many thought less persons, especially boy s, while gunning, sate in the habit of shootiug robins, blue birds, &c., forgetting that it is forbidden by law. The Act of March 31, 1868, imposes a penalty of $25 for the killing of any in sectivoruus bird, one-halt the fine to be paid to the informer. The birds classed under the head of insectivorous birds are robins, martins, swallows, blue birds, woodpeck er* ac., in tact all the small birds general ly seen in this latitude. IMPORTANT TO CIGAR DEALERS —The internal revenue law of July 20th, 1868. provides that on and after the first day of April 1869, all cigars shall be pack ed in boxes, not before used, counting re spectively 50, 100, 2.50 and 500, and shall be deemed and taken to have been manu factured or imported since July 20. 1868. and shall be restamped with tax-paid stamps. Every manufa•.turer of cigars shall burn into to the box, with a metal brand, his mute, the number of cigars . numi er of his manufactory, district and State. and shall paste. thereon a printed notice forbidding the use of the box or package again antler wrathy of $lOO fins and imprisonment, and. shall stalk the ste,ni' denoting that the tax has been pail. Any person who shall sell or offer for aisle any cigars in any other form than in new boxes, or who shall pick in ally box any cigars in excess of the number provi ded by law to be put in each box, shall. upon conviction, be tined for each offenos not less than $lOO, nor more than $l,OOO, and be imprisoned not less than six months nor more than two years. The fact that the cigars In the bands of dealers have on the boxes the red stamps, or any *of the rid stamps, denoting that the tax has been paid, will not answer.
