Some of the more moderate Demo rats, restive under the rule of the Irisblown wing of the party, united quietly with the Republicans, and ran a fusion ticket against that of the straight-out Democracy. The fusion ticket was elected, except the Judge, Auditor, Clerk and Constable, the Democracy secur ing these office by from 1 to 6 votes. YORK Suunuß SPRINGS, Pa. March' 22, 1869.; Our first general Borough election came off on last Friday. On Saturday evening previous, the Republicans nominated a full ticket, and on Monday evening following the Democracy, headed by our Representa tive, Dr. Dill, (who was President of the .meeting„) with some few Republicans, met and nominated a mongrel ticket composed of Democrats and Republicans. Every ef fort was made to defeat our ticket. Dr. Dill was expected from Harrisburg in the evening by the.sLage, but fearing he would not get here in time, he was sent for, and met at Papertown, and brought here in time to vote. With all' their effort the Straight-out-Republican ticket was elected by majorities ranging from 11 to 22, aver aging aboilt. 13. We. are determined that old "York Springs" shall not loose her good name, auddive tlukt the fusion Republicans have been taught a lesson they will not soon forget. STRAIGHT REPUBLICAN. DR. WILLIT'S LEUTURE.—Notwith standing the inclement weather on Mon day night, -there was a good audience in Agricultural Ilan, drawn out to hear Rev. Dr. Wiityr, of Philadelphia, lecture on the "The Sanahine of the Heart." It was a capital lEcture. We think we do not speak too strongly in pronouncing it the best we have had—a cheerful, bright, bouyaut, common sense view of the secret of human happiness, calculated to do good. An easy, pleasant, genial talker, with an evidently warm sun-shiny heart of his own, Dr. WHIR thinks that this badly abused world of ours 4 after all a goodly estate, designed by God to make his creatures happY—tthat the sources of un happiness, misery and 'gloom, are to be fonnalargfily in the indiydual disposition ; that oven real troubles have in tbew, when rightly viewed, elements of good'[ and that every one has the power of making life a genial sunshine. Dr. W. has, mqrcover, a rich vein of humor, which was well de veloped in some capital illustrations of the gloomy, dissatisfied, captious, fault finding, austere, straight-laced-straight faced people who make themselves and all around them auhipPy. There was ono .feature of the lecture which we liked. IV bile largely spiced with apt and humorous anecdotes in illustration of his theme, at times convulsing the audi ence• with laughter, they , were all felisitious illustrations taken from every day life, and all pointing a good healthy moral. Throughout the lecturer did not I,se sight of the fact that he was a t Christian and a Christian 4 Minister, and be steadly kept his hearers up to a realization of the over - -flowing fullness of Divine love and the wi...keduess of human ingratitude. At the close of the lecture, Dr: Willit, by request, recited .his well known ren dering of Longfellow's "Excelsior," which in itself was a rich treat. Without hesitation, we place Dr. Willit in the front rank of platform Lecturers.. We understand that Rev. Dr. Willit has agreed to deliver 2f:totter Lecture on "The Model Wife," on the 14th of April. the State Senate, on Thursday last, fir. DuxcAN read in place an act to , authorize the schools directors of Waynes bolo, Franklin county, to borrow money ftir school purposes . . Also, an aet author ising and requiring the sele.4l boord of Cum. berlandtownship, in Adams county, to 1547 ali.l collect additional tax to pay bounty debt of v.hl township. The bill to exempt tke Lrutegs of Penn sylvania College of Gettysburg, in the county of Adami, from the payment Of collateral inheritance tax on stock be queathed under the wh i t of Davis Pearson, deceased, has passed both houses. In tho Senate, on Tuesday, an act was posed "relative to committing magis trates of Lebanon, Dauphin, Adams and Franklin countite," We do not know the nature of the act. It was rear} to pbsQe by Senator Coleman, of Lebanon. The act to change the place of holding the elections in the township of Hunting dqp, 04e county of Adams, was defeat t;d in the House on Tuesday.
