tion of the digestive Inactions, and for this
purpose aromatic tonics are given, profes
sionally denominated "tincture of aromatic
411111)11"/C acid,' one drachm, in a pint of
water, night and morning. At the same
41 me the horse is subjected to a course of
alterative medicines, composed of powdered
giver, gentian, sulphur, salt, cream of tar
tar, charcoal, liconee, elecampaine, cara
way seeds and balm of Gilead buds, chop
ped fine—equal parts of each. Mix with
the food one ounce of this compound every
night. While under the influence of this
_preparation severe exercise or hard and
protracted labor should be avoided ; but
tale done not necessarily imply total inac
tion. An improvement in condition mani
fests itself,. the aromatic tincture may be
given more sparingly and soon be omitted
entirely, and the alterative McdiCine be
diminished half, ristricting it to half an
ounce, night and morning. Water from a
bucket. regularly three times each day ; and
If a ippnandizer of food, muzzle the ani
mal, except at :regular feeding times. A
slight infusion of garlic into the toad,
chopped fine, daily, is repuod to produce
paying results. An entire cure # fully
pionounced case of heaves is ppt readily
sccoMplished by any mode of treatment—
if, indeed, such a case be curable at all.—

CULT WASH FOR BHILDINGS.—Take a
clean, water-tight cask and put Into it halt
a bushel of lime. Slack it by pouring wa
ter over it boiling hot, and in sufficient
quantity to cover it five inches deep, and
stir it till thoroughly slackened. When
the lime has been slackened, dissolve It in
water, and add two pounds of sulphate of
zinc and one of common salt. These will
canoe the wash to'harden and prevent its
cracking, which gives an unseemly appear
ance to the work. A, beautiful cream color
may be given - to the wash by adding three
pounds of yellow ochre; or a good pearl
or lead colcir 1^.15 , the addition of a lump of
iron black.; For fawn color add four
pounds umber, one pound of Indian red,
And pound COIHMOH lamp black. For stone
color add two pounds raw umber and two
pounds lamp black. When applied to the
outside of houses and to fences, it is rend
ered more durable by adding about a pint
of sweet milk to a gallon of wash.—Scien
