"TILE RELICS OF THE CONFIDERACIT.".....III
Ails article on the flight of Jefferson Davis,
in the current number ol i iPackurd's
Monthly, Mr. E. A. Pollard makes the -re
markable statenpsnt that the bulk of the
valuable documents of the Confederate
Government, including thecorrespondence
of Jeffenson'Davtz, exists to-day in - con
ehiil ; ghat Many days before the fall of
Richmond there was a careltd selection of
important papers, especially those in the
office of the President, and letters which
involve confidence in the North and in Du
rope, and that these were secretly conveyed
out of Richmond and deposited in a Mace
where they remain concealed to this 'hie,
and will probably not be unearthed in this
generation. Mr. Pollard mentions the case
of a single secret document which he was
once permitted.to see in Richmond, where
in certain parties offered to assist the Con
federacy by supplying its Western armies
for a whole year'from the granaries and
magazines of the North. Such important
letters and other secret papers (says Mr.
Pollard) stilledst, were preserved from die
wreck and fire of Richmond, and at this
moment are kept in a manner and place
which reader theta secure against discov
ery, loss or mutilation.
Tomtit children in New Brunswick got
astray. One, a girl, was about six years
of age, the others four and three, It was a
wild region, and in wild weather, and at
the edge of night. From signs its seems
that the six year old girl soon Telt sure that
there was no hope of their being found that
night, and so took measures at once for the
sate keeping . of her little ones. Putting
them in the most sheltered nook she could
find, she then stripped away most of her
own garments to put on them, and then set
out to gather dry sea weed and brush to
cover them up in and - • defend them. A
large quantity of this had been gathered
and piled about the babes into a sort of
nest, and there•they lay when the people
found them, still alive ; but the — six.year old
matron and martyr lay out on the shore
dead of the cold, beside the last, pile of
brash she had been able to.gather, but was
actable to bring.
A Nuciao sdrlhas been astonishing the
people of Vicksburg, Miss. * by her per
.formances on the piano. She is eighteen
years old, and as black as the ace of spades,
does not know a single note of music, and
cannot spell the simplest word. She was
a house servant, and-as such was permitted
to play upon the piano. She can play any
piece, however difficult it may be, after
hearing it played; and her accuracy and
delicacy of touch is really something very
remarkable. For the pant two years she
has been employed as a field hand, and has
bad no opportunity of playing or listening
lo others play.
Tns foreign Immigration returns of the
year show a falling off of thirty
thousand In3he arrivals at this port as cotu-
pared with last year. So far as the Irish
are concerned, we suppose the emigration
to this country will be less hereafter than it
has been in previous years, owing to the
.crying up of the source of supply in Ireland
itself. We suppose the decrease of German
emigration to America can be wed:tied for
on the idea prevalent in Europe that the
demand ior labor and the rewaici for labor
here at this time ire less than they Wave
been in other years.—N. Y. Times.
Twit Dun or Tug YEau.—The necrolog
ical record of the year comprises the names
of Charles Kean, SIT David Brewster, Lord
Brougham, James Rothschild, Berryer,
Samuel Lover, Coquerel, the sculptor Mar
ochetti,Mossini and Dean !Inman in Eu
rope; and in this country the following:
Bishop Hopkins, Leutze, Elliott, the Mount
brothers, the sculptor Ball Hughes, - &be
Smith, Charles U. Halpine, Professor Ad
ler, Julia Dean Rayne, James Buchanan,
and Thaddeus Stevens. Admiral Bell, of
our Ram died while on service abroad, and
Ada bales Menken died in Paris.
SatALL-Pox.—From numerous parts of
the country, and from other places on this
continent come reports that amill-pox is
raging with unusual violence. It is excit
ing more or less apprehension in various
- aaunties of California, in Milwaukee, Cin
cinnati, Providence, Montreal, Panama,
and at other points. The vype it is assum
ing is also much more malignant than has
been common of late years.. It is not now
the dreaded scourge it formerly was, but
vaccination is'Oot yet so' tualversal at to
take away ail the terrors of its visitations.

THE GREAT CHOLERA
PREVENTATIVE.
X. 1866. L
rim GREAT
Zingari Bitters.
T HIS WONDERFUL REMEDY wee discovered
and introduced &Witt twenty years ago by Dr. 8.
Cheapens, an eminent Egyptian physician.
Welled long
striken felt the want of fonts remedy
which would ik at the root eff disease. and so
prevent much ofthe suffering which the human fami
ly was then-compelled to endure.
This great question was presented to his mind
every day In vivid colors as he moved among tbe sick
andelying, and observed the inefficiency of nearly all
the remedies then in use. Thus he was led to think
and experiment; end afterten years' sandy and labor.
be presented is his fellow-man the wonderful:Gingen
Bitters. The effect of this preparation in the pre
vention and cure of disease was so marvellous and
astonishing, that the met Battering marks of royal
favor were bestowed upon him who discovered it ; name was placed upon the Roll of Nobles, and
• gold medal with the following inscription—Dr. 8.
Cheoinus, the Public Benefactor—wasßresented to
him by,,the Viceroy.
The preparation has been used In several epldemica
of cholera, both as a preventive and curative meas.
use, and with such great success, that it has been In
traduced into nearly all the general ho.Qi tale of the
old world.
The old saying that an ounce of prevention is worth
a pound of cure, applies • Ith niarvellous force to
cholera, and therefore any remedy that will protect
us against this terrible disease should be freely and
persistently used.
All pathologist. now agree that the cholera poison
acts on the system through the blood, and that any
combination which acts on the excretory organs, and
keeps them In working order, must prevent a sulTelen t
accumulation of the poison to exert its terrible effects
on the organism. This is true oueonly or eiwiers, but
of nearly all other maladies, especially the fliasrent
forms of fever.
The Zinger( Bitters Is Just such a remedy as the
above conditions require. It acts on the organs Cl
excretion and secretion. keeping up a perfect hal
sacs between them. This Bitters is composed en
tirely of roots and bulls, so nicely concocted that
every organ is acted upon ant put in tone. Its taste
is kilos/ant and its effects prompt and luting.
Nome:sus cases of the following disease* have
been cured by it: Cholera, Dianfioa, Dysentery,
Itkrofula. Typhoid and Typhus Fever. Fever, Agne,
Nervous Debility, Anaemia. Female Irregularities.
Dyspepsia, Slatuleocy, Colic, kg.

THE GREAT MACHINE OF THE SEASON
Having tried ono myself. I know exactly what It will
do. I could refer you tolicoree of farmers who have

less coot.
Another great saying is the BINDER which la at

been thoroughly tried, and given entire satisfaction—
requiting co harvest hand except • driver. This
Hinder can alao be attached to the Reapers bleb
