Treasurer, .1.. L. SCRIM
'The b'ustess committee reported the fol
lowing res utions, which were adopted :
Resolved, That as Intemperance with all
its combined influence; now presents one of
the most gigantic forms of evil known in
ur country, and as human skill is insuffi
ient, to surmount these influences and re
trieve the curse, we therefore reverently im
plore the Divine Wisdom to guide our coon=
cils and his blessing on our efforts in amain
plishing the work.
2. That we deem it of the first importance
that the rising generation fie carefully guard
edyagainst the evils of Intemperance ; and
wei earnestly recommend , that the sub'
be ltrought before the superintwden's and
teachers of our Sabbath Schools, with the
rtlquest that they co-operate with us in se
curing the pledges of the children. under
their charge td total abstinence.
That the managers of this County or
ganization are hereby requested, and it is
their duty to encourage and hold 'public
meetings in their respective townships,
through their Pastors, Sabbath Schools,
churchlos, Sc., and to - call out speakers for
such occasions, and present the total absti-'
nence pledge for signers ; and that eac
township report quarterly to the president
of the County organization the ntmaber of
meetings held and the names enrolled. ;
4. That as the diffusion of light and intel
ligence is essential in every moral reform,
we recommend to all the "Leader," pub
lished tilt J. H. KEAYI.Y, Hollidaysburg,
Pa., "Monthly eirenlar;" published at Lan
caster, Pa., "...Yationat Temperance ..t(1 uo
care," and "Youths' Temperance Banner,"
published by J. STEARN. No. 172 William
street, New York, and the "Temperance
Banner," published at Selin's Grove, Pa..
as an efficient means .(f' prosecuting the
work.
5. That to the traiguAil intoxicating drinks
may be traced a largo portion: df the drunk
enness, paupdrism,losanity, crime and cas
ualties of the country ; and that against
these evils, as a civil right, the people should
be protected by wholesome legislation ; and
that as aAicease Oyes freedom und•apparent
respectuEllity to the traffic, add denies the
proper protection to the people, therefore, it
is the right and duty of the citizens of this
Commonwealth in self-defence, by legisla
tion and all suitable ineaillo bring such
traffic to an end. ,•
O. That the licensing of acknowledged
evils is wrong in morals and ruinous in le
gislation, and that a good law is a potent in
strument to crote a good i?nbic sentiment,
and a bad law corrupts and depraves it ; and
that we can never give our consent to a s:ys
tem which shall give' the legal sanction of
the State to the traffic in intoxicating drinks
—a business so ruinous to the best interests
of the people—and that prohibition is the
only safe legislation that can be enforced in
practice.
7. That in theppiniuu of - this Convention
it is inconsistent with the obligations volun
tarily a -same(' by professors of Christianity,
or members of 'any Temperance organiza
tion to manufacture, sell or use iptoxicating
drinks as a bevdrage, or sign an application
for a license, or rent their property to retail
such liquors, or in any way give counte
nance to the traffic.
8. That we request all political parties . to
•
nominate good, well-tried Temperance men
for civil office.
t. That as the pulpit isa potent inStrument
in this country in creating and sustaining a
purified public sentiment, we therefore, re
spectfully request the pastors of this County
to preach on the subject of Temperance, in
their respective congregations on the third
!Sabbath in September, or at their earliest

LiThie great medicine cured Dr. J. H. SCHENCK, the Pro-

a 4 of the larger cities w eekly, where lie bas a large con
cdurse of patients, and it is truly astonishing to see poor
consumptives that have to be lifted ontof their carriagee
aed in a few months healthy, robust persons. DR
SCHENCK'S PULMONIC SYRUP, SEAWEED TONIC,
AND MANDRAKE PILLS are generally all required in
curing Consumption. Full directions accompany each
so that any one can take t hem without seeing Dr, Schenck,
but when it is convenient it is beau.° see him. He gives
advice wee, but for a thorough examination with his Re
