PENSION-RELIEF HOAX
IN PENNSYLVANIA
The greatest hoax that
officials have tried to folst upon the
public of Pennsylvania is the S« Schnad-
er-Pinchot hypocrisy in dealing with
Relief, Old Age Assistance, and Pen
sions for the Blind.
The force of public opinion compell-
ed Messrs Schnader and Pinchot to
permit their controlled legislature to
make some kind of gesture in respect
to public opinion but such wag done in
a fashion that they knew ut the time
the enabling legislation was enacted,
such legislation not and would
not provide either the necessary funds
nor direct Old Age Assist-
ance or Blind Pensions
The smoke-screen legislation
these Subjects was passed at the
tal Session of 1933-1834 when the Penn-
syvlvania State Liquor Stores were cre
ated and all of the appropriations nec-
essary to carry out this program, in
addition to numerous other appropria-
tions. were made contingent upon the
profits of the State Liquor Stores. Act
No. of this Special Session appro
priated $10,000,000.00 for construction
purposes with the profity of the Liqg-
wor Stores Fund. Act No. 60 of this
Session appropriated $1,310,000.00 from
the profits of this Fund to Pensions
for the Blind Act No. 65 appropriat-
ed $4,000,000.00 of the profits from the
State Liquor Stores to Old Age Assist
ance, and Act No. 68 of same
Seasion appropriated $20,000,000.00
from the net profits of the
State Stores for 1 of direct
Relief. Total from the
