a man that's all man. Fine of phy

would (and will) make an admirable
sheriff for Centre county. Remember,
too, he has an honorable World War

ten years ago, and show our appreci-

Lyman I. Smith has asked the Re-
porter to use ite columns to express
his sincere gratitude to the host of
Democrats who gave him such a flat.
tering vote at the primaries. This may
appear to be a belated “thank you”
notice, with the election several weeks
past, but Mr. Smith really asked this
favor of us a week earlier. However,
its sincerity is in no wise lessened
through the delay.

charity work and principle of old fash-

efficient work is conspicuously dis

It wil! thus be seen that Mr, Walk-

salary takers. and as a matter of fact
Mr. Walker has never held a salaried
office. His unusua | labprs over 0
many years on behalf of his commu-

disinterestedness,
Mr. Walker has been practicing law
in this county for more than thirty-
one years, and as his practice has been
a large one and reasonably lucrative,
it has given him a wide experience
both In the study and application of le:
gal principles.
At first he appeared frequently in
the trial of cases but with increasing
caution and experience, and with the
open mindedness that came from these
to him. he began to realize that it was
for the best interests of his clients to
sottle wherever possible their litigation
outside of Courts. Thus he has de-

While many Centre county residents
may think that severe destruction
caused only by spectacular insects, such
the European corn borer Japanese
beetle. and Mexican bean beetle, there
are many other pests which cause tre-
mendous Josses annually.
Farm clean-up practice, as used for
the corn borer. also helps to reduce
the number of insects whose work Is
not so conspleuous. Cleaning up and
burning all weeds and trash in gardens
and along fences this fall after Insects
have gone into hibernation for the
winter in these places will destroy
thousands of leaf hoppers, curculios,
tarnished plant bugs and other forma
which pass thelr winters under leaves
and in the grass

CAMPAIGN LITERATURE

aver
3 comparing the
ture of M. Ward Fleming,
the Republican nomination
of the courts of Centre county
Judge Furst. there are variations and
omissions that are not accidental. Dur:
ing the campaign it was blazed forth
everywhere that Mr. Fleming kept the
world from falling into the mea, nut
his biographers, since the nomination,
are more thoughtful, discpeet and dip-
lomatic, as the careful reading of the
two documents will reveal
During the primary campaign the
circular “Who Is Ward Fleming?”
stated that he “has been a member of
the Centre County Board of Viewers
¢ince 1911"—and “has been referee in
bankruptcy for Centre county since
1916.
This indicates that Mr. Fleming has
held one office ever since he was ad:
mitted to the bar and two offices since
1916. Not so bad.
His campaign managers are not so
anxious now to have the voters in
Centre county know that this candi
date for judge has had a public teat
in his mouth ever since he Is old
enough to drain it and that for eleven
years he has wen served with two.
No wonder he f¢ physically fit!
It looks as though Mr. Fleming has
alréady been well served, yet he =»
asking a third teat without spitting
the other two out.
